World, Meet The ‘Girl Meets World’ Star

Sure, we were just as excited as the next ’90s kid to hear about the Boy Meets World sequel, Girl Meets World. But as of yesterday, the world officially met its Girl.

Rowan Blanchard will play Riley Matthews, daughter of Cory (Ben Savage, 32) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel, 31). The 11-year-old cutie was chosen for the role during a national acting call by Disney. Previously, she appeared in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D and The Back-Up Plan. She’s also an aspiring singer — check out her impressive cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You.”

Girl Meets World producer Michael Jacobs told Entertainment Weekly, “As soon as Rowan walked into the room, I was reminded of why Ben Savage was loved as Cory Matthews. Rowan is real and accessible, and I am hopeful this girl is about to meet a world that will love growing up with her as well.”

According to the casting call, Riley is “fiercely loyal to her friends” with a “bright spirit and eternal optimism.” She has an older brother, Elliot, and a best friend, Maya. And what’s our beloved Cory up to? Teaching history at Riley’s middle school!

Production for the pilot begins next month, which means the series will join Disney Channel’s 2013 – 2014 lineup if it gets greenlit. Will you watch Girl Meets World? Do you think Rowan Blanchard is the right choice for Riley?
