Plot twist! Lea Michele reveals that she and Glee costar Matthew Morrison briefly dated before they joined the hit Fox series.
“When we shot the pilot, I met Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, and Chris Colfer for the first time,” Michele writes in her new book, Brunette Ambition. “I had worked on Broadway with Jenna Ushkowitz and Matthew Morrison before. Matt had been a friend of mine for years, and in fact we’d actually dated back in the day for a Broadway beat.”
The admission comes after years of the two denying any past romance. “I’ve known Matt for years. He’s been a friend of mine from New York,” Michele told Hollywood.com in 2010. “People are going to make things up. I think it’s just because we really are so close.”
Although the two remain close friends, Michele went on to date her costar Cory Monteith before his tragic death in July 2013. According to Wetpaint, Michele dedicates her new book to Monteith.
“To Cory, I’m so happy to know that you got to read this book,” Michele writes in the acknowledgements section. “Thank you for all your notes. I promise I made every single one. I love you.”
