It’s official, everyone: our childhoods are about to be resurrected. Disney announced this morning that Girl Meets World, a sequel series to the cherished hit Boy Meets World, has finally been greenlit by the network. The spinoff, which will revolve around the life of Cory and Topanga’s tween daughter Riley Matthews and her best friend Maya—the Shawn to her Cory—will begin production this summer. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will of course reprise their roles of Cory and Topanga, and the show will introduce newcomers Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter to play Riley and Maya, respectively. William Daniels will also be making a return as everyone’s favorite teacher, Mr. Feeny.
“I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids,” says the series creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs. “Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.”
Will Girl Meets World capture that same magical quality of the original series? Can the Disney channel revive our childhood favorite or will its sequel merely taint our Boy Meets World memories? Let us know what you think below!
