Bülent Arınç, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister, was unintendedly hilarious last week when speaking to a crowd celebrating the end of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.
“A woman should be chaste,” Arınç said. “She should know the difference between public and private. She should not laugh in public.” According to Arınç, women’s so-called public indecency contributes to the “moral corruption” he says is rampant in Turkey.
Emma Watson, the new Goodwill Ambassador for U.N. Women, thought that was as LOL-worthy as we did.
On Friday, she posted an Instagram picture of her cracking up (in public! Gasp!). That’s the second picture Watson’s uploaded–ever–to her Instagram, so you could say this was kind of a big deal.
Women everywhere have been following suit, posting pictures of themselves laughing all over social media. The hashtag #direnkahkaha (ignore him – laugh) has taken hold of the Web, and hopefully won’t let go anytime soon!
