The Best App For Going Out in College

Rounding up a group of friends to go out at night can be the most frustrating thing ever. Your entire group of friends might live in the same building as you, but that doesn’t necessarily make it any easier to coordinate plans. A typical Friday night usually involves a huge web of group texts in which everyone is trying to figure out who’s going where, and it’s just one huge mess. Luckily, you’re not alone, and even better, there’s a solution that will make your weekends less of a headache! Going out with a group is about to get a whole lot easier!

Ben Kaplan, a student at the College of the Holy Cross, recognized this frustration and founded WiGo in January of this year. WiGo, which stands for Who is Going Out?, aims to streamline how we can make plans to go out and meet up based on friends’ activity. The iPhone app first prompts you to set your status as “going out,”  and then it allows you to broadcast where you’re headed, whether it be a frat house, a place on campus or a bar. That way, friends can easily see where you’re headed and meet up with you. WiGo also features a “tap” function that you can use to directly notify your friends that you want them to join you. Easiest way ever to get a group together for Girls’ Night Out – finally!

Plus, you know the phrase, “What happened in X stays in X?” Well, that phrase rings true with WiGo because each morning, all data —who was where, what messages were sent, etc. — gets wiped clean.

Since the app launched in late August, over 30,000 students from over 700 colleges have begun using it. Will you be the next one, collegiettes? Whether you’ll be using the app to “accidentally” run into your crush (we’re all thinking it) or to round up a group of friends to head to a party, we seriously suggest you download it before this weekend!
