The Best Couple Halloween Costumes for 2012

So you made the decision to dress up with your boyfriend/girlfriend this Halloween. Now what? You’re stumped on what to dress up as. Fred and Wilma Flintstone is tired, not everyone (including your boyfriend) would pick up on the Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis costume, and that male/female electrical plug costume is plain awkward.

Solution? Obviously checking Her Campus for the most topical and fun ideas for couples costumes this year. Scroll down for an idea that will impress all your friends and keep them from holding it against you and your S.O. about how mushy and cute you are for dressing up together.

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games
Bonus: Gale Hawthorne

Hungry for more Hunger Games? Dress up as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark this Halloween (and if you’re in a bizarre love triangle, recruit a Gale Hawthorne). For Katniss, braid your hair, grab a bow and arrow, and a rain coat. For Peeta it’s even easier – a tight black shirt, brown pants, and some dirt on your face.

Emily Maynard and Jef Holm from The Bachelorette
Bonus: Double date with “Courtney Robertson” and “Ben Flajnik”

It’s this year’s version of Barbie and Ken… except with a little more dysfunction. If you’re lucky enough to have a Bachelorette viewing buddy dress up with you this year, go as the latest “winners” Jef Holm and Emily Maynard. For Emily, wear your girliest dress, apply makeup impeccably, and get a bleach blonde wig. Don’t forget your Neil Lane stunning engagement ring. For Jef you’ll need top-notch skateboarding skills to get around all night, a hipster haircut, and either a suit or a People Water (his company) tee.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich

Bonus: Will the third wheel dress up as Fluff?
We know, it’s a little cheesy, but who can resist dressing up with the sweetest guy you know as a PB&J. It’s an easy DIY costume too. Cut a posterboard out in the shape of bread and then have one dress up in a brown outfit for peanut butter, and the other in pink or purple – depending whether you like strawberry or grape jelly. Last step? Hug all night long.

Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd
A million seasons later and we’re still obsessed with Meredith and Derek. Perhaps the comfiest costume you can dress up in this year is this duo of doctors. All you’ll need is scrubs and a scull cap — and hopefully the rain cloud that lives above Seattle Grace won’t follow you to Halloween parties.

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan
Whether you choose their glam look or their dressed down day-to-day look, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, make for a great 2012 costume. Especially now that they can announce they’re married on their Facebook newsfeed. For the wedding day look it’s about a lacy wedding gown and a sharp suit. For their daily outfit, it’s college t-shirts and sweatshirts — despite their billions you won’t see any Chanel and Prada here!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
How could you forget Brad and Angelina’s epic Oscars look? For your boy Brad, put your guy’s suit on him and slick back his hair. For Angie, any black dress that has (or you can add) a slit will work. Red lipstick and enviable wavy hair is a must. You’ll be the most glam couple at the frat party.

Barack and Michelle Obama
Hoping to clock in 20 years like Barack and Michelle just recently did in their marriage? Dress up as POTUS and FLOTUS this year. For Barack, a suit with a blue tie and a hint of gray hair color will do the trick. For Michelle, a J.Crew dress, pearls anda fist ready for an affectionate punch will do the trick.

Mitt and Ann Romney
Take the less obvious path with the G.O.P. costume of choice this year: Mitt and Ann Romney. The couple, who have been married for an impressive 42 years and have five sons, are a great alternative to the Obamas. For Mitt, yes once again it’s a boring suit with a red tie (perhaps add a nod to BYU with a pin?). Ann’s costume requires wispy blonde hair, small hoop earrings, red lipstick and a red wrap dress. What a politically correct look!

Brokenhearted Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
It’s been a sad year for the Twilight couple, but they’re back on – which means they make a great couples Halloween costume. Dressing as Kristen? Um, don’t wash your hair on Halloween – it’ll need to look a bit stringy. And you’ll get to wear comfy Converses with your dress. Don’t forget to scowl — you’re not sorry for the scandal! And Rob? Scruffy hair, a dirty t-shirt, and a sad look on his face completes the look.

Soap and Loofah

Can’t get your guy on board to dress up as Rob Pattinson? Yeah, we saw that one coming. Could he find some amusement in dressing up as a bar of soap (as long as you’re a cute little loofah?). Easy for him to do — it’s a fun craft with some white and blue paint and an old box. And fun for your loofah costume: you get to wear a pretty pink tutu (or two… or three). It could be a dirty costume… but now it’s all in clean fun.

RedFoo and SkyBlu
Here’s one for the goofiest couples around. Sure LMFAO is dunzo — but they still make for a great costume. Basically with this one get as silly as you want: leopard or zebra pants, rhinestoned fake glasses, obnoxious necklaces, party rock tees — be creative! And if you fight with the RedFoo to your SkyBlu on October 31… well then you’re just staying in costume.

Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey
This will definitely be your last Halloween with the ultimate 50 Shades of Grey creativity. Before you know it the movie will be cast and your image of Christian Grey will be destroyed by some hot Hollywood hunk (OK, maybe destroyed is the wrong word, but you get our gist). But for this year, get creative with how you imagine the 27-year-old billionaire. All you need to do is visualize the youngest, most intelligent, handsome, charming and business savvy guy you can and make it work this year. Try to keep a bit in costume if possible, as Christian is tall, muscular, has copper “sex hair” and gray eyes.

For Anastasia – lay off the tanning beds, as she is said to be pale, with brown hair and big blue eyes. You can grab jeans, a t-shirt and converse all from your closet and accent them with a great bra (yeah, we said it), blush, and a gloss to make your lips look full.
