Intern Diaries

Friday was my last day as an editorial features intern in NYC with one of the best-selling women's magazines in the world. I packed up my desk (the drawers were full of free samples from a beauty give-away) and passed out my thank you cards with a mixture of elation and sadness.
It's been an amazing summer and I'm sad to say that I finish my internship next week. Next friday I say goodbye to all of the fact-checking, brainstorming and researching until the school year starts.
I was looking for a new purse the other day when my mom delivered some startling news to me.  “Ashley, you’re growing up- and you might need to shop more practically.
Even though my internship runs until late August, many of my fellow editorial interns are heading back to school in the next week. We've been spending our rare free time in the intern nook stressing about the best way to get recommendations so that we can (hopefully) spend more time stressing in another intern nook next summer.
Up until two weeks ago, my internship had hit a lull. I had settled into my routine, familiarized myself with the copy machine, and exhausted the 20 free monthly articles on the New York Times website.
