Lose the Freshman 15: 5 Totally Unique Runs to Try this Summer

Hey Ladies!

The weather is getting warmer and I for one couldn’t be happier! Not only am I even more motivated than ever with beach body season right around the corner, but I’m also suuper pumped about the fact that I can finally take my workouts outside! I started out by switching over to the outdoor Self HIIT workout, and now I’m looking for something to add. That being said, I’ve created a list of five unique runs that I’m adding to my summer bucket list. Check them out below:

The Color Run

I can share  first hand that this race, which is catch phrased as “The Happiest 5k on The Planet” is TOTALLY awesome. I ran the 2012 race, and let me tell you, the color stations at ever kilometer made me even more motivated to run an extra stretch. The best part? You get a super cool tie dye- esque shirt as a souvenir once the race is over .

The Electric Run

Named, “The Color Run’s Sister,” I’m sure that the inaugural year of this race is going be a huge hit! Unlike most 5ks, this run is held at night allowing for glow sticks and neon colors to light up the sky. Afterwards, be sure to stick around for a light show where you can dance the night away.

The Zombie Run

Okay, so I’ve talked about my love of Zombies before when I raved about the “Zombies, Run!” app. So obviously, I was psyched when I found out about this simulated zombie attack that’s taking over the country. Participants have the option to run as a zombie or a victim, but either one guarantees a race like no other. Plus it doesn’t hurt that one of the creators is a soon to be Temple Owl!

Tough Mudder

This is one of those races that I’ve been dying to try forever, but have been too scared. With the aid of the Self Workout Plan, I think this is finally the year where I will be up for the challenge. That being said, I’m still pretty much terrified to test my grounds on this 10-12 mile obstacle course. Wish me luck!

Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon

This is another race that I’ve been wanted to compete in forever! While I still think I have a little bit of training to do before I try to take on a half marathon, when I’m ready this will be the one that I try. The unique thing about this half marathon is that performers line the course, playing live music as the race goes on, so it’s basically a free concert and race all in one. This race doesn’t hit Philadelphia until September, so who knows? Maybe I’ll be half-marathon ready by the end of the summer!

Have a race that you’re excited to try this summer? Let me know in the comments!
