Why Choose SMU?
"I love the school environment at SMU. Everyone has so much fun but also works really hard in school"
"My favorite part of SMU are the football game boulevards (tailgates). All of the greek houses pair up and it becomes a giant dance party. Everyone in the school is in the same place enjoying the sunny weather and texas beer"
"I chose SMU because I wanted to be near a large city. It's perfect because it's not in Dallas but it's right outside of it in a really nice neighborhood. I always feel really safe."
"I came to SMU only knowing one person and it's been one of the best decisions I made. Everyone came from all over the United States and the first few days of school everyone had their dorm room doors open and were all walking around introducing themselves and hanging out. It was so much fun."
"I had a really hard decision to make, which was between SMU and my home state school. I ended up choosing SMU and I'm so glad I did. The greek system is one of the best things about SMU and I've found all of my best friends through it."
"I'm about to be a senior next year and I'm so sad to only have one year left at SMU. All of the people I've met here I've gotten so close to and I can't believe we're all going to be out on our own soon. Thankfully SMU does a really good job helping people get jobs so that helps!"
"SMU has a very strong greek system. Almost half of the SMU student body is in the greek system. Recruitment occurs at the start of the spring semester freshman year, which gives freshman the first semester to get to know the different houses. There are eight sororities and nine fraternites on campus. The best part about being in the greek system at SMU is being with a group of girls or boys that are really similar to you and become some of your best friends. Once you pledge a house you meet so many people in the greek system and a lot of the time thats where you meet your really good girl and guy friends. The top three sororities are Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. The top three fraternities are Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Gamma Delta, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon."
"Boulevard Season is essentially football season. A boulevard is a tailgate for our football games. Every game day we have tents set up on the Dallas Hall lawn where greek houses pair up with each other. There's tons of food, beer, and it's basically a giant party where everyone comes together. SMU has been known for the fun fashions people wear at the boulevards. Girls dress up in dresses and wedges or cowboy boots and boys wear button downs. It's one of my favorite parts of SMU for sure."
"One of the best parts about SMU is the nightlife we have in the city of Dallas. Most bars in Dallas are 18 and up so even though you can't be served alcohol under the age of 21 you can get in and be with everyone. There are lots of fun outdoor bars for daytime and clubs for nighttime. There are also great bars to just get a beer or cocktail with friends. It also makes it really fun to plan events because sororities and fraternities can host events at really nice and fun venues in Dallas."
"Studying abroad is something that a lot of students chosoe to do at SMU. It was one of my favorite experiences. SMU has a good relationship with a lot of different companies and programs around the world. Students can work or study abroad and get credit for it through SMU. Some of the most popular spots for going abroad are Spain, London, and Australia."
"Our basketball team has recently become really good. With coach Larry Brown and our brand new basketball stadium (which serves beer) we went 18-1 for home games this season. The games are really fun and the student body loves it. In order to get tickets students have to camp out for a night."
Events in Dallas
"Because Dallas is such a big city there are also lots of sports events and concerts to attend. We have the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Dallas Mavericks, which are all fun events to attend with friends. A few of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are actually students at SMU."
"I am now a senior at SMU and I wish it was slightly bigger. As each year goes by I think it feels a little bit smaller."
"I wish our football team was better. We're getting better but I wish we were as good as we use to be."
"The food at SMU could definitely use an upgrade. Next year we will have a large extension of buildings and I heard there might be new food spots so that's good!"
"The parking is awful."
New Collegiette on Campus

"Orientation is called AARO and it occurs in the summer before starting at SMU. It was pretty standard and predictable for a college orientation."
"There is first year housing, which is all dorms. You get to request your dorm and roommate. There is also now second year housing where the sophomores will be living. Upperclassmen are off campus so they don't really mingle with lower classmen except in the greek system or in classes."
"One fun thing to do as a freshman is play for your dorm intramural team. There's soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc. It's really fun and a good way to meet people."
"Being a freshman at SMU is fun because there are people who come from all over the country and are all looking to meet people and make friends so you make friends pretty quickly because everyone is in the same boat."

"There are several clubs which usually have to do with a specific major. For example the American Institute of Graphic Arts SMU Chapter is for students persuing creative advertising or graphic design degrees."
"Being in the SMU Greek system is definitely the best decision I made when I came here."
"Our basketball team was really good this year and is going to be even better next year."
"Everyone tries to go to our basketball games. You have to campout to get tickets."
"We have intramural and club sports. Club sports are more intense and travel to different schools, while intramural sports are more casual."
