Why Choose Cal State LA?
"It’s a “small” school but it allows students to get a more hands on experience. It’s that much easier to get involved."
"Cal State LA has the best location. It’s right next to Downtown, not far from Pasadena and right on the edge of all the freeways."
"There’s so much diversity on this campus! You meet people from so many different backgrounds and cultures; you always learn something from someone. Students here are definitely passionate."
"This school is close to family and friends in surrounding cities so I have lots of connections on campus. It’s very convenient and very affordable."
"LA is the place to be for my major (Television, Film, and Media)! I eventually want to go into the industry and there’s no better place to be."
"My favorite part of the campus is the train station! We’re the only school to have a station on the Metrolink and it makes commuting and getting to other areas of LA so easy! Since I don’t have a car, this really made me feel like I could get anywhere I need to go."
"There’s a Starbucks on campus. What more do you need?"
"The professors never made me feel like I couldn’t approach them. All of them are willing to help you in their free time."
"The class size is perfect! Once you get into your major classes, courses are small. I love it."
"I feel like Cal State LA has a lot of networking opportunities. It’s not hard to make connections here."
"The clubs and organizations on campus are SO dedicated! Students on the boards really want to make their group the best it could possibly be."
"Cal State LA has a dedication to improvement. There’s always some kind of construction, whether it be improving the University Student Union or adding a Hydrogen Center. It’s really cool to see that the school doesn’t want to settle."
"There’s inclusiveness among all the students. It feels like everyone has a place, no one is misfit."
"Lots of TV shows and movies film on campus! Sometimes they cast Cal State LA students as extras, which is really cool."
"Parking is a nightmare. There aren’t enough spaces for the amount of students. Since Cal State LA is a commuter school, it is so difficult to find parking."
"Financial aid isn’t the best. Everyone complains that the service is bad and it takes forever to get your money."
"Bathrooms on campus can get gross. They just need to be attended to more frequently."
"We need more coffee places!! More food options would awesome too. But mostly more places to get coffee."
"I wish they involved more commuters into the social scene and become more of a community than just a school."
"More entertaining events would be nice. There are a lot of events that are based in social justice, but sometimes I just want to go to something that is fun and silly."
"Interdepartmental flexibility is missing. I don’t know what’s going on in other departments most of the time."
"Communication with the students can be improved. The students should know where exactly their fees are going."
New Collegiette on Campus
"Find your happy spot on campus! A go to place where you feel familiar and comfortable really helps you transition into school."

All About Academics
"The Social Media Certificate is really cool! It’s like a minor, but more casual and easier to obtain. They have lots of Certificates you can take, but for my Marketing major, Social Media is extremely helpful."
"I like the academics because of the class sizes and the level of involvement. I feel like the professors really pay attention to me."
"For the price that you pay, it’s phenomenal! The Television, Film and Theatre graduate program is very rare and unbelievably priced! The support that you get from the faculty is great; the professors are working professionals so they know what’s going on in the outside world. The new TVFM building is increidble too! It's so state of the art."
"The course load at Cal State LA is extremely manageable. I’m able to balance a social life and extracurricular activities with a full load of classes. Plus I feel like I’m learning a lot."
"There are some classes that I've taken that really resounded with me and made me want to learn so much more. Some of my favorite classes have been smaller ones, but I've had a few amazing lecture hall courses."
Learn from the Best
"Professor Germano is really energetic! He teaches Social Media and Marketing classes; he’s the best."
"Dr. Koch from Political Science cares about her students, is passionate about what she does, doesn’t pretend we are high school students, and knows how to communicate. She’s always interesting."
"Jim Munson from the University Times is really laid back and is always there to help!"
"Professor Chantel Solomon was so awesome and really helped prepare me for the COMM speech competition freshman year. Even now she helps me by writing letters of rec."
"I just think that Professor Roberto Cantu is a very intricate lecturer! I've had him for English and one not for my major but he has such a special way of speaking to people that it's very fun to hear him speak. He makes you want to learn and take his class again. You can tell that he's IN his lectures, like he incorporates himself and you can really see his enthusiasm. You see him in the hallway and he's so open to students. Just a wide array of education. It's always something different when you see him."

"It’s convenient; you get to meet people and bond with them."
"I love living with my friends! If you dorm with the right people, you will have the best time ever!"
"The dorms are cool because they are apartment style, no matter your year! It’s so great to have your own kitchen, living room and bathroom! Most of the freshmen live in dorms with 8 people, which can be rough if you don’t like being around other people."
