Why Choose Agnes Scott?
"I chose Agnes because I wanted to attend a school with a small learning environment, as well as the opportunity to develop a relationship with my professors and fellow peers. I wanted to be a person to them, not a number. I also wanted to be apart of a community where everyone wants everyone else to succeed and to feel empowered, strong and confident. Attending Agnes has made that possible."
"Being a student-athlete at Agnes Scott is just that- a STUDENT-athlete. My academics always come first, which is just what I was looking for. My coach is understanding of tutoring sessions, we have mandatory study hall our first semester and any time we drop below a 3.0, and we have a fairly light schedule to make sure we don’t miss too much class. There is a sense of community among the athletes here, across all the teams. I had a built in family and support group before the first day of classes even began."
"I chose Agnes because of the sense of community and support I felt."
"We have the most beautiful campus, really great professors, and all the friends I have made!"
"The buildings are all close together, campus is beautiful, stellar professors, individualized attention from professors, and sense of sisterhood that we all share. Also free laundry. Seriously."
"The campus! It's soooo beautiful!"
"I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. I can grow and learn who I am without any pressure to conform to some an ideal."
"I am proud of the person Agnes Scott College has made me. I have grown confident in myself and my knowledge. You are surrounded by driven peers who are friendly and driven, just like you!"
"Without a doubt, the campus because it is absolutely beautiful!"
"The academics offer an array of classes from art classes with a focus on water colors to the history of the Bible. It is so hard to pick classes!"
"We live in the cute area of Decatur where there are always places to go and things to do. However, we can easily access the big city of Atlanta if we want to switch things up!"
"Agnes Scott has the best traditions. It is amazing to be able to take part of our school's history."
"What is not to love about a school that does everything to empower you and prepare you for the future?"
"Agnes Scott’s wifi connection is sometimes problematic. There are moments when connecting to the internet in your dorm is not difficult and then there are moments the internet connection is gone or slow. An Ethernet cable cord is sometimes needed (incoming first years receive one)."
"Though it is good, I would like more variety in the food."
"I wish we had more kitchen options in the dorms."
New Collegiette on Campus
"Being a first year at Agnes is different than being a freshman during high school. Almost immediately you're given opportunities to join clubs, and have a leadership position (if that's something you want to do). That's been the biggest thing for me; having the opportunity to be involved from the start."
"My first year has been overwhelming at first, but everyone is so kind and supportive, learned a lot about organizing my time."
"I was hesitant about the All Women’s College thing, but honestly I have learned and grown so much that I cannot imagine going anywhere else. The people here have influenced my life and I know they are friends I will have for life. I am only in my first year and cannot imagine how much I will know and learn by the time I graduate."
"Even though it is a small school, I find myself meeting tons of new and interesting people every day."
"Our Scottie Sister program really helps make the transition to being on your own and at college WAY easier."
All About Academics
"At Agnes Scott, the classes are rigorous. Professors are willing to help students in anyway they can. There is a Science and Math Learning Center located on campus. These centers provide students with tutors, who are also Agnes Scott students, and they help students with their work. There is also a writing center located in the library. They help fix the structure of your essays, brainstorm, check for grammar errors, and proofread. There is cross registrations. It allows students to signup to take classes that are not offered at Agnes Scott at different colleges. If you do your best and work hard, then you will succeed in the class."
"The academics at Agnes are amazing. Some nights while doing homework or studying I think "THIS IS SO HARD", but I also realize if I'm able to excel in an environment where the academics are difficult, I'll be a competitive candidate to companies when it's time to graduate and look for employment opportunities."
"Dr. Zavodny. Intro to Macroeconomics. Just take her class! She's a great professor, and she's very approachable when you need help."
"The range of classes is amazing. Since we are a smaller school, it is easier to get into the classes you want and to form relationships with professors and students."
"Academics are well-rounded (liberal arts), even classes that you don't want to take but have to for distributional requirements are interesting."
"Dr. Larimore is amazing, really helpful, engaging. Her Biology class is interesting, she has adorable children, and runs marathons!"
"Aside from our other tutoring opportunities, ASC has an awesome Center for Writing and Speaking that offers students hands on help with papers, presentations, you name it. It is easy to either be partnered with a tutor personally or to schedule a session/and or walk right in!"
Learn from the Best
"Study in the glass hallway. It is so beautiful that you will almost forget that you are in a library or studying. Plus you can see what it looks like outside since you can't be there!"
"Its easy to jump to conclusions and say you won't have a life if you go to an All Women's College. That just isn't true. You are surrounded by amazing people that may be the greatest friends you could ever ask for and two big cities and colleges to explore."
"Have lots of options for courses during course sign up. There are many fun and interesting options for classes, just in case you can't make it in your top choices!"
"Attend all the orientation events. Not only is it a great way to meet people, but also a way to learn tips and tricks for mastering your first year at Agnes and the traditions!"

"Take advantage of all that Agnes offers such as the Career Planning services and the Center for Writing and Speaking. They all want to help you succeed!"
Interests & Involvement
"There are many clubs and organizations for students to join. The clubs here consist of a range of interests from Human Rights to Anime to Biology to video game clubs. There are a lot of events on campus, such as TGIF. During my first year, there was a spring carnival and performances by cover bands. During the beginning of the fall semester, there is a hub sing. Students sing songs that were written by other Scotties. There are parties, such as Red Light Green Light and Spring Fling. There are also many events off campus. Last semester at the Atlanta High Museum was college night. College students got into the museum at a discount."
"I am a part of Collegiate Chorale, Agnes Student Recruiters, and participate in various community service/volunteer opportunities organized through Agnes."
"I am a member of Student Lunch Team, GEMS, and HerCampus."
"I am a member of Programming Board, which is the club that plans all the events on campus. I also am a part of Colonnade, which is for student-alum relations and alumnae events."

"Agnes is such a welcoming and active campus that if there is (by any stray chance) nothing that interests you, it is easy to start something on your own and meet people with similar interests!"
"ASC always has plenty of speakers and events going on on campus. The great thing is that they are free and cover an array of topics so you can really try and learn new things all the time!"

"Agnes Scott pride is unlike any other I have known. We have traditions that are upheld year after year so that we are able to bond and be proud of our Scottie sisterhood."
"Our fight song literally says when we yell, we yell like hell. Totally self-explanatory!"
"We take our athletics very seriously.. Our athletes exhibit some of the best sportsmanship and dedication, I have ever seen!"
"During black cat season and spirit week, it is always intense. Each grade competing for the top number of points through all the challenges. However, it is all in good fun and nice to see everyone come together at bonfire and see the Freshmen reveal their mascot!"
"Don't be fooled by our sweet Scottie dog mascot. We are fierce and proud!"
"Being in Atlanta there are many teams to show pride for such as the Falcons, Braves, Yellow Jackets, Bulldogs, and most importantly the Scotties!"
"Agnes Scott College is the epitome of girl power."
"Studies have proven that women who graduate from these institutions enter the world with great confidence."
"They say you are who you surround yourself with. At Agnes, you find yourself surrounded by driven, unique, talented, outgoing, successful, inspiring peers and the list goes on. I am proud to say I go to Agnes Scott."
"Agnes Scott College provides an environment for students to grow in the classroom and as a person for the real world. This college makes you proud of who you are and who you will become so you can confidently enter the real world."
"Our slogan says 'The World for Women'. That is as girl power as it gets!"
"We prefer 'women power'. If that is what you're looking for, Agnes is the place for you!"
"I feel proud of myself here. I do not feel insecure or inferior in the class room or otherwise. Agnes helps us embrace ourselves and take on this so-called 'man's world'."
Food & Drink
"Beware of the desserts. Just because there is a huge variety at every meal, it does not mean you need to try one of everything!"
"Pete and the dining hall staff were all so sweet to come in on the snow storm days to feed us. We appreciate you all and the delicious food!"
"Fried chicken Wednesdays and Taco Fridays. What more is there to want?"
"Many of my friends are vegitarians and always comment that there is plenty of options for them to choose from at each meal."
"I like that we have a suggestion board to comment on meals or propose new ideas. It helps us be involved and get things we like."
"Wait till 9 am for breakfast and you can have Miss Pat's biscuits."
"In Decatur, there are various restaurants that serve a variety of food. There are fast food restaurants. There are cakes shops, such as Cakes and Ales, The Yogurt Tap, which serves frozen yogurt, Green Ginger, which serves Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food, there is Sushi Avenue, Chipotle, and other restaurants. Some of these restaurants allow take out and provide delivery take out, like Green Ginger."
"Sometimes I walk into the city of Decatur, just over the train tracks. There lots of restaurants to chose from, nail salons if you want to have a "spa day", and a CVS so you're able to purchase your daily needs or fill a prescription."
"The social scene is exciting!!! (GA Tech and Emory are very close)."
"With Marta being safe, inexpensive, and right by campus, it is easy to explore the Decatur/Atlanta area even without a car."
"Agnes is the perfect place if you're homebody, or a girl that likes to party. Various campus organizations like Witkaze, and Programming Board plan on campus events that give you the opportunity to have fun while socializing with fellow Scotties. We're also close to other colleges and universities like Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and the AUC (Atlanta University Center), and have an option to venture to their campuses as well. Even if you don't have a car, your friend may, and MARTA isn't difficult to navigate at all and it's an affordable transportation option. "
"Decatur and Atlanta always have cool music and indie festivals that you can spend the day at. There is always something new!"
"We get some of the best concerts in the country."
"Decatur's only 10 minutes away from Atlanta, so if you like the fast pace city life that's an option. But you get the best of both worlds, something like suburbia, with the city close by."
"First years are placed in the residence halls called Winship and Walters. Walters Hall is better. However, I also lived there, so my opinion is biased."
"A housing lottery for upper class students is done, so they can select a new dorm to stay in. The chance of you getting into the dorm you want depends on the amount of points you and your roommate(s). The number of points a student gets depends on her year. The dorms available for upper class women are Hopkins Hall, Inman Hall, Main Hall, Rebekah Scott Hall and the Theme Houses. The dorms have community bathrooms."
"Agnes Scott offers three theme houses for up to 21 upper class women. Students must fill out an application in order to be considered. The Avery Glen college apartments are available for juniors and seniors. Commuters are provided with their own lounge in the Alston Campus Center. Campbell Hall is an old building on campus that is currently being renovated. It will be a new dorm for students, opening during the fall of 2014."
"I love my roommate but can't wait to get a kitchen."
"The dorms are pretty nice. I have a corner room in Walters, so I'm a little on the spoiled size with the amount of living space my room mate and I share. But, if you have a room along the hallway (well the longer hallway) you have a decent size closet which is nice. Especially if you have a lot of clothes like me."
"The rooms and closets are a decent size for college. They have beautiful crown molding and high ceilings. They are also close to where most classes are which is nice!"

Exploring Decatur and Atlanta
"Downtown Decatur is within walking distance from campus. The amount of restaurants and places to hang out there is more than enough!"
"Whether you stay in Decatur or Marta your way into Atlanta, there is always something to do or try."
"We are lucky to have such unique restaurants and shops so close to campus. We have the city feel without being right in the heart of the craziness. We can easily travel to Atlanta whenever."
"My friends and I enjoy going to College Night at the High Museum to see exhibits and take advantage of the student discount."
"If you somehow get bored of Decatur, we are so close to Emory and Georgia Tech that it is easy to make friends in the area and explore what their campuses and surrounding settings have to offer."
"Take advantage of the fairs and festivals in downtown Decatur and Atlanta. It is an inexpensive and great way to try new things and learn more about the city."
"Living here for 19 years, I can verify that the weather here is sometimes unpredictable. There are times when it is warm in the winter. When I was younger, one day during the summer was actually cold. However, the weather in Georgia is mostly pleasant. Decatur has the smaller city vibe, but there is still plenty to do."
"This was a weird year for us because it snowed, TWICE! Regardless, campus is accessible and beautiful year round. If you have an all-encompassing seasonal closet, then you’ll be fine!"
"It is always beautiful here and there are plenty of things in town you can simply walk to."
