Zendaya Claims to Deal With Racism Even When She’s Buying Gift Cards at a Grocery Store

Earlier this week, Disney star and future Mary Jane, Zendaya, shared with her Snapchat followers a racist interaction she had while trying to purchase gift cards at a grocery store.

Zendaya claims that she went to Von’s supermarket to buy $400 worth of gift cards, but she faced opposition. “I don’t think she was a fan of our skin tone,” she says of the store clerk.

In the video, Zendaya and her friend, who witnessed the incident, explain how the store’s employee recklessly flung Zendaya’s wallet, causing one of her cards to fall out.

Luckily, the actress was able to purchase the gift cards after a manager addressed the situation.

The store has since spoken with TMZ about the altercation, saying that the real issue was not race, rather the store’s policy of allowing shoppers to charge no more than $200 in gift card purchases to a credit card.
