Toby from ‘This Is Us’ is Going to Be Just Fine

Earlier this week, This Is Us shocked us with the kind of twist the show does best. Toby collapsed on Christmas Eve and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he flatlined on the operating table. Now fans are left to wait an entire month until Toby’s fate is revealed. As honorary members of the Pearson fam, we choose hope. Here are five reasons why Toby is going to live.

1. Nothing bad happens on Christmas Eve

How many times did the Pearsons recite this line in Tuesday’s midseason finale? It. Has. To. Be. True.

2. He flew all that way on Zoom Airlines

Toby didn’t fly to Kate’s family Christmas—in a middle seat, no less—to die shortly thereafter. I’m sure traveling on Zoom Airlines was enough like hell to add a few years onto his life.

3. He just got back together with Kate

Excuse me, but that cute reunion can’t be the end of Toby and Kate. I just won’t accept that. They seem to be on the same page in their relationship now, so it’s time they give it a shot for real.

4. He’s ready to get his health on track

Toby just said he was going back on his diet and getting his health in order—not just for Kate, but for himself. Surely the show will give him a chance to do that.

5. Jack is already dead—they can’t kill someone else

You have already killed my beloved Jack Pearson, This Is Us. I will not allow another major death to happen this soon.* At least not until I have answers about The Big Three’s pops. (*If you must kill someone, make it Miguel.)
