A Reporter Told Taylor Swift She Could Use A Shower & Fans Are Not Having It

Taylor Swift is slowly but surely returning to the spotlight, launching her Reputation Stadium Tour and putting in appearances at big events like the Billboard Music Awards. While her return for the most part has been focused on her music, things took a turn on Sunday.

Swift was in Wales performing at an event called The Biggest Weekend. The weather was reportedly very humid (yuck!), and her performance took place outdoors. When she came offstage, the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer spoke with BBC Radio 1 reporter Greg James. Newsweek reports that during the interview, James commented on Swift’s post-show sweatiness, saying, “I think you need to have a shower now.” The singer seemed to share his feelings, noting she agreed. “I’m not offended that you said that,” Swfit said. “There’s a lot going on and none of it’s good here.”

While the exchange could very well have just been funny banter, Swift’s fans were not having it. Many of them jumped to her defense on social media, deeming James’s comments inappropriate and rude, seeing them as a judgment on the singer’s appearance. “She [Swift] will look better than [you] sweaty than [you] ever will clean,” one passionate Twitter user said.

In light of the internet frenzy, James tweeted an apology that praised Swift’s sense of humor. “It’s all cool. It was hot up there,” he said. “I almost said we should both go for a shower but after this reaction, I’m glad I didn’t.”

Swift has yet to comment on the situation, but fans should consider that she seems to have a positive relationship with this reporter. People reports that the singer and reporter teamed up in 2014 to cover one of Swift’s songs. And while James’s comment may not have been the ideal thing to say, maybe #Swifties should focus their attention on discussing all of the amazing things Taylor does, like caring for injured fans and rocking stadiums.
