Fame, as the paparazzi-filled handful of decades has shown, is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, celebrities find themselves with legions of fans willing to defend and adore them at every moment of the day. They have notoriety, respect and a bank account that would shock many. However, there is also a more sinister side of fame. Ridicule and inspection of their every move is a constant, it can oftentimes be fleeting and there’s a threat of people assuming a celebrity belongs to them in a possessive way.
For most of her career, Taylor Swift has been the shining example of this constant dichotomy of fame. She’s won over hearts across the globe, but been the object of criticism. She’s won awards, but been accused of being a mean girl. Swift has also been the target of quite a few stalkers.
And it seems that one specific stalker had some new allegations come to light.
According to E! News, Frank Andrew Hoover of Texas, violated a restraining order the star had taken out against him in 2016 when he camped outside her show at a local arena, which landed him in jail. But he certainly did not stop there.
As it turns out, he also somehow obtained the email address of Taylor’s father and allegedly began sending threatening emails saying that he would wipe out the entire Swift family in one go. Coupled with the restraining order violation, Hoover could face some serious jail time.
This is a clear violation of Swift’s privacy as well as her family’s. Just because someone is known on a global scale does not mean that a person is allowed to say and do whatever they want to that person. Fame is a scary place and Swift knows that more than anyone.
