Lena Dunham is Taking a Break From the Public Eye

With the crazy lives celebrities lead, it never comes as any surprise when a celeb chooses to take a break from the public eye. So when Lena Dunham decided to call it quits, we didn’t think much of it.

But for Lena, it’s not just about needing some time off; it’s for more personal reasons than that, and we’re glad she’s speaking out about it. Turns out, she’s been diagnosed with endometriosis, “a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women’s reproductive health,” she explains. It happens when tissue that usually grows inside the uterus is actually growing outside of it, and causes severe pain.

Hey Beloved Pals, I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won’t be out and about doing press for the new season. As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women’s reproductive health. I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest. That’s a hard thing to do, but I’m trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet. I’m lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang. So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted. Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you. Back soon xxLena

Though Lena acknowledges that she’s in a unique position to be able to take time off, we’re glad she’s speaking up about why it’s important to take some personal time, and to be okay with it. We live in a world where taking time off is frowned upon, but sometimes, that’s exactly what you need to excel. As Lena puts it, “That’s a hard thing to do, but I’m trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet.”
