Chase McNary Signed a Contract to Be the Bachelor, But Then Nick Viall Happened

It turns out Luke Pell wasn’t the only one who was hijacked of his Bachelor dream when Nick Viall signed on for this season. If you follow The Bachelorette, you know that Chase McNary was the second runner-up on JoJo Fletcher’s season last year. Unfortunately, just like Luke, Chase was fooled into thinking he was set to be the franchise’s next lead.

“I went through the negotiations, I accepted the offer, I signed the contract,” McNary reveals to Us Weekly. “I talked to my family, friends, about being the Bachelor. It was the Monday before they announced it that they told me I wasn’t the Bachelor. So I found out with the rest of the world that it was Nick.”

Nick was a surprising choice, as Chase hadn’t even considered him to be in the running for the role prior to the announcement. In fact, he’d thought Luke would snag the coveted role.

“Inherently, I thought it was going to be Luke,” McNary continues. “When I found out I wasn’t the Bachelor, I thought it was going to be Luke. I think Luke thought it was going to be me. And we both at the same time found out it was going to be Nick.”

We can’t help but feel bad for Chase, but Nick is pretty cute. We’ll just have to see where this season of The Bachelor takes us.
