Yesterday afternoon, MTV finally announced the nominees for this year’s VMAs. Although female artists like Adele and Ariana Grande appear in several categories, Beyoncé takes the prize for the most nominations this year—with a whopping 11 nominations!
Considering the global impact of Beyoncé and her music, we’re honestly not surprised that she has a chance to win an award in nearly every category. And because Beyoncé slays, we know that this year’s VMAs will be a successful one for the “Formation” singer. Bey’s nominations include Video of the Year for “Formation,” Best Female Video for “Hold Up,” and Best Collaboration for “Freedom” featuring Kendrick Lamar.
Since literally everyone was talking about the “Formation” video for weeks, that track also received nominations for Best Pop Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Cinematography. Other nominations include Best Art Direction for “Hold Up” and Best Editing for “Formation.” Oh, and let’s not forget that Lemonade is nominated for Breakthrough Long-Form Video, which is a brand new category this year.
