In a recent interview with Variety, Anne Hathaway explains why she thinks The Devil Wears Prada was such a hit: “It’s aspirational. It’s a fairy tale, but it’s also rooted in reality. Everybody has had an experience like this. It looks great, but there’s also an emotionally resonant story.” Today, Hathaway celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the iconic film on Instagram in the most perfect way, movie quotes included.
Though she credits much of her Hollywood fame to her role as Andy Sachs, second assistant to fashion editor Miranda Priestly, she says that she wasn’t the casting director’s first choice by any means. “I’d never had a starring role in a grown-up movie. All my movies had been geared towards kids… I was just trying to basically not get in anyone’s way,” she said of the experience.
Still, the movie was wildly successful, earning more than 10 times its production costs at the box office, and to this day, we are still reciting its quotes.
In fact, the movie had such a memorable impact that Hathaway says, “I can be anywhere in the world and people come up and tell me about their relationship with The Devil Wears Prada.”
