Photoshop Touch: the newest must-have app for creatives!

The new Adobe Photoshop Touch app for iPad!

Ask any of my friends and they’ll attest that I am a photo-sharing FIEND. I can’t go a day without snapping a picture (or five) documenting my yummy meals, the pretty views from my window, and the behind-the-scenes hilarity at the Her Campus office! Those photos invariably end up on my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I take a lot of care to make my posted pictures look as perfect as possible, so I have an entire folder of apps that each contribute a piece to the photo-editing process: adding decorative stickers, text, frames, and filters. It can be a rather lengthy process, as you can imagine!

So when my friends over at Adobe called to tell me about Photoshop Touch, their brand new iPad app with pretty much all the features that make Photoshop my favorite software ever, I could not wait to try out the app and add it to my on-the-go photo-editing workflow. Maybe I could even consolidate some of the steps I currently take to edit my pictures!

I was so impressed with how powerful PS Touch is. Having used the desktop version of Photoshop nearly every day for the past few years, I’m extremely familiar with all its tools and features. The iPad Touch app includes all of the most important ones, so I’m able to accomplish anything I want using it.

At left is a picture I snapped of Brittany, Her Campus’s Manager of Campus Development, during our spring break trip to Miami. Using a number of Photoshop Touch tools, I was able to correct the color, remove distracting objects from the background, exaggerate a tilt-shift focus effect, and even add text! The final version is on the right, below.

I saved the image to my Camera Roll and sent it off to Instagram! I could have even shared the photo directly to Facebook if I wanted.

The experience of manipulating a photo using a touchscreen is really addictive, and I can’t wait to play with PS Touch more! Here’s what I’m going to try next:

  • Make my own custom photo filters, taking advantage of PS Touch’s layers functionality and extensive Effects gallery
  • Search Google images BY COLOR for imagery to incorporate into my projects!
  • Create a collage combining multiple pictures from my camera roll
  • Practice my signature using the brush tool (okay, this is just a silly thing that I do…I’m probably the only non-celebrity person in the world who does this!)

And the best part is that I can take a photo from start to finish all in PS Touch without having to use multiple apps, because the program is that powerful and jam-packed with functionality!

Want to try for yourself? Get the app for your iPad 2 from the App Store for $9.99.
