Zendaya stepped out in style for the Third Annual InStyle Awards no pun intended). Her red carpet ensemble – a layered, multi-colored Schiaparelli gown – looked dazzling paired with bright red Casadei heels.
The most surprising part of her look? Her Angela Davis-inspired afro. The motivation for this show-stopping hair came from a photo taken in her grandmother’s living room in the ’60s. The black and white pic captures her father and aunts smiling proudly with their afros quaffed as they attended a Black Panthers meeting.

History provides the best style inspiration, and if you ask me, Zendaya has taken it to the next level. If you’ve been following her style evolution since her Disney Channel days, you’d know an afro is not out of the ordinary. As she said during her honoree speech, “Continue…to be extraordinary, and brilliant and unique in your own way, because that’s what the world needs right now, is people who exactly who they are. Continue to do you, and don’t let anyone stop that shine.”
Bottom line is, she rocks it. We’re stoked to see what other looks she has planned for this season!
