Here’s How You Can Create That Viral “Flare” Highlight

Instagram user @thestudyofmakeup has over 21,000 followers for a good reason––her highlight game is out of this world. She has three levels of shine: subtle, glow and flare . And let’s just say that the flare is literally a lens flare! No one seems to be on her level, so how does she do it?

The makeup artist behind the account told Allure how she gets that blinding effect. “If you want to condense the pigment in your highlight product and make it really glow, use a very dense, wet eyeshadow brush. The technique “centralizes” the product, she claims. “Most people apply their highlight with a large fan brush, [but] that will only give a more natural look.”

Her highlight of choice is the Blushing Hearts Highlighter in Goddess of Love, by Makeup Revolution. It’s only $7 and has undertones that match her pale skin tone. The last step? Use a setting spray to make it pop! Then find your perfect lighting and angle to get that “flare” effect. If your goal is to blind people with your highlight, you should probably be taking notes.
