Earth Lovers: How to NOT be an Annoying 3-Minute Showerer

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

You know those people…

They only eat organic food, only wear second hand clothes, wear feathers and/or flowers in their hair, drive a Prius (no offense, Mom), wash their hair every few days, walk around barefoot, and talk non-stop about how much they love the earth and they’re saving the environment…

Maybe they wear some tie-dye too?

If you’re like me, you probably think those people are a bit annoying. And, if you’re like me, probably at least half of the reason you’re annoyed by them is because they make you feel guilty that you aren’t as “green” or “eco-friendly” as they are. Because they’re rubbing it in your face all the time.

That was one of my biggest worries when I started the Earth Lovers Three-Minute Shower Challenge Blogging Program. Besides worrying that I wouldn’t be able to actually take a 3-minute shower (which I can do, yay!), I worried that my friends would get annoyed with me talking about how much water I’m saving and trying to convince them to be Earth Lovers too.

So I decided: I’m NOT going to be annoying about it! So in thinking of how to do this, I came up with my list of the

Top 5 Ways to NOT be an Annoying 3-Minute Showerer (can’t you tell I like making lists?):

1. DON’T be a Guilt-Tripper – don’t make my friends (or anyone else) feel bad if they can’t – or don’t want to – take a 3-minute shower. It’s their choice!
2. DON’T be a Drama Queen – don’t go on and on explaining how many gallons of water they can save, how many people and animals could drink that water, and when the world is going to end if they don’t stop taking long showers. That will just turn them off from the whole thing…!
3. DO answer questions – tell my friends what I’m doing to reduce my water consumption (without going on and on about it), and then answer their questions about it if they have any!
4.  DON’T turn into a new person – I don’t need to start wearing different clothes, wearing feathers in my hair, or drastically change anything else about my lifestyle… I just need to be me, but use up less water!
5. DO give options – if my friends say they can’t take 3-minute showers, I’ll just give them options for other ways they can reduce their water consumption!

So, Earth Lovers, take the advice that I gave to myself, and go out into the world and be a non-annoying 3-minute showerer! You can do it! I have faith in you!

Peace, Love, and Showers,

— Cassidy
