Teigen recently posted a throwback photo of herself and husband John Legend at the 2008 Grammy Awards with the caption “10 years ago. This tan!!! Lmao.” I’m sure she expected fans to join her in cringing at the “fashion” of the late 2000s, because, lets be honest, who didn’t experience a bad fake tan in that decade?
However, one follower decided to use the fun throwback as an opportunity to throw shade. They commented, “Wow so stunning here!! Before the boobies and fillers, so natural and stunning. You both still look great.” Instead of letting the comments, and the speculation of plastic surgery, go unnoticed, the model responded, saying “Boobies and fillers? F*ck off with your backhanded sh*t. 2 babies and 10 years. Bye, b.”
As a general rule of thumb: Don’t comment on women’s bodies, like, ever. Don’t voice your opinions, or tell them that they “looked better before.” Don’t try to publicly out someone for having plastic surgery, gaining weight, or simply looking different. And, for the love of everything that is good in the world, don’t try to mask insults as compliments.
If anyone dares to look back at a photo of themselves from ten years ago, specifically in the era where orange tans, velour tracksuits and Ed Hardy were all the rage, I’m sure that you’ll notice a few changes to yourself too. Trust me — if you’re brave enough to share one of those photos for the world, and in Teigen’s case, to 15.8 million followers, then the last thing you’ll want is someone shaming you, and sharing their two cents on whether they thought you looked better before.
Over the past ten years, Chrissy has become a mother to (soon to be) two children, starred on countless television shows and magazine covers, graced us with her tweets every day, and taught us the perfect way to make all of our favorite comfort foods. Ten years looks good on her.
