Do you care deeply about the environment and conserving the earth’s precious natural resources? Do you love to make videos? Combine your passions and film your own video to enter it in our Earth Lovers Three-Minute Shower Challenge Youtube Contest!
The Body Shop and HerCampus.com are partnering to promote the Earth Lovers Three Minute Shower Challenge, a national campaign aiming to get college students across the country to reduce their water usage by pledging to cut their shower time down to a mere 3 minutes.
A huge part of the Earth Lovers Three Minute Shower Challenge will be this Youtube Contest, so we need your support! We’re encouraging everyone to make their very own video explaining how to take a three-minute shower and stressing the importance of conserving water. The videos can range from funny to inspirational – just as long as they promote the mission of getting people to take shorter showers (no nudity, please!!).
The first 30 people to enter their videos in the Earth Lovers Three-Minute Shower Challenge will receive a free full-size bottle of Shower Gels for Earth Lovers from The Body Shop! The best videos will be promoted on HerCampus.com and on The Body Shop Facebook page and Twitter feed!
In addition, the video with the most views by Earth Day (April 22, 2011) will win a huge package from The Body Shop worth $500 of product!
Not convinced yet? Let’s do some simple number-crunching. According the United States Geological Survey the average shower head uses 7 gallons of water per minute. The average shower time for a woman who needs to shave is just over 10 minutes. That means that the average shower uses over 70 gallons of water! If you make a video and get just 100 people to watch it, and of those 100, 20 are convinced to take the Three-Minute Shower Challenge and cut down their shower time to 3 minutes, those 20 people that you influenced could save a collective 2,940 gallons of water a week or 152,880 gallons of water a year! That’s enough drinking water for a village of 10,000 people to survive on during a month! And it could all be because of you.
