9 Beauty Trends From the ’00s We Don’t Miss

Sometimes we like to look back at our younger selves and see how far we’ve come. For most of us, the early ’00s were the height of our fashion and beauty exploration. Hindsight is 20/20 and when we look back at these styles, we may feel nostalgic… but we will also feel a sense of relief that we are not actively sporting these styles anymore.

1. The Pouf

It was quite handy for when you had to grow out your awkward front bangs, but in retrospect, it wasn’t all too flattering.

2. Thin brows

Are your brows on fleek? If they are, we hope they do not look like a thin pencil line. These brows do nothing for anybody.

3. Crimped hair

Remember the crimper? Remember how they had different shapes you could imprint onto your hair? Well, thank goodness we don’t see those on shelves next to the curling iron these days. But seriously why did we think it was okay to walk around with hair that resembled a crinkle cut fry?

4. Bedazzled braids

Dreads and braids are still around, but do you want to know what isn’t? The jewels and sequins on them.

5. Frosted tips

The real question is: why was this ever acceptable?

6. Icy makeup

There’s a correct way to use bright and frosty eye colors and there’s a wrong way. Let’s never recreate this look, okay?

7. Super fake tans

Nothing wrong with some color… until you turn out looking like an Oompa Loompa.

8. Chunky highlights

We’re just glad the basic hair highlights have been upgraded over the years.

9. Sparkly hair

If Bey couldn’t pull it off, we definitely can’t either.

Elodie is currently enrolled at Duke University, Class of 2016. She is involved in her sorority, Chi Omega, Bench & Bar, GlobeMed, and Students of the Caribbean Association. She is pre-law and studying Political Science with certificates in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) and a minor in Sociology. As one of our Beauty School bloggers, she is fairly obsessed with all things makeup and cosmetics. When she's not running debt on clothes and makeup, you can usually find her out and about, exploring whatever town she is in or watching Netflix cuddled with a mug of hot chocolate. Currently, her favorite show is "Hawaii Five-O". She aspires to be the next Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating rolled into one, but with a stable marriage and children. Her life will be complete once Buzzfeed creates an article titled "X Reasons why We Love Elodie". Elodie loves talking and responds to all of her emails. She would love to hear from you!
