The Journey of a Plus Sized Girl

This week has been very busy and difficult because of midterms, classes, work and meetings. It has been hard to eat healthy or even at all on a regular basis. Although I did not cut junk food cold turkey, I reward myself a bit. By that I mean every time I drink three bottles of water, I drink a cup of juice. If I eat my healthy meals, I will eat a few cookies or a portioned amount of chips. I no longer binge eat like I used to. Now I try to portion everything evenly so if something might not seem that healthy, I’ll only eat a portion of it. If it were up to me, I would eat half of the bottle of Pringles, a whole roll of Oreos, or the whole bag of popcorn. But right now I am slowly learning about self-control and since I am not used to eating super healthy, I am trying to portion my meals in order for my body to get used to it.

I feel better already though. I do not exercise too much but I do walk to school every day and the walk from my house is about a 30-40 minute walk to class. It may not be too much but it has helped me a lot. I do break a sweat with some hills and it is a good morning or afternoon walk. It’s a slow transition but I am trying and will try a lot more as the weeks go by.

What made my weekend was the difference my mom saw in me. Not just physically but also mentally. She noticed I was happier. And I am happy and am also working on loving myself unconditionally. She did say I looked a bit thinner this weekend too, which she never tells me. So it gave me more motivation. It is important to be happy and love yourself when we live in a society that constantly judges us for our appearances, but I am learning to be myself

The Life of a Plus Sized Girl

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been chubby and have always struggled with my weight, and a lot of people do suffer with weight issues that can affect them emotionally, socially, and physically. I am no different. I have days where I am content with myself and then there are days I wish I was thinner because I think that life would be so much easier if I were thinner.

I’ve always had self-esteem issues because of my size and the constant teasing that came with it. It takes a tremendous toll on a girl who has been bullied about her size since she was seven years old. I have been through so much in my life that I don’t open up to people easily. I can seem happy and confident on the outside, but on the inside I am screaming for help. With so many issues in my life, I completely neglected my well-being. I would be that girl that “ate her feelings" because it was the only way I could cope with my emotions. It’s not something I like admitting but it’s something I have tried to overcome for so many years.

I am not going to lie; I have compared myself to other girls. I have had my moments where I wish I had Beyoncé’s body, or had the looks of other celebrities, but at the end of the day, I am not going to look like any celebrity. The media pressures women to look a certain way and I have fallen into that mindset for so many years. We are all beautiful in our own way and we all need to love ourselves for who we are.

Could 2015 Be the Biggest Movie Year Yet?

With this year’s summer movie season coming to a close, we have seen our fair share of  hits, flops, and surprises. While there are still movies to look forward to later this year and next, audiences are excited for the 2015 movie season. The biggest names of film will tentatively be released during 2015. Some of those films include the sequel to Marvel's, The Avengers, battling against DC's, Batman vs. Superman, and a brand new Star Wars saga.

Here are some of the films that will be released in 2015 (dates are not set in stone).

The Fantastic Four

Release Date: March 6, 2015

Chronicle's Josh Trank is on board to direct Fox’s reboot, titled The Fantastic Four. X-Men: First Class, with director Matthew Vaughn on board as a producer. There has been no set date of when production will start and casting has been a bit difficult. However, we can expect the core cast to be younger. We can expect production to begin early next year.

Ted 2

Release Date: April, 2015

Top 15 Highest Grossing Films of 2013 (So Far)

We are more than half way done with the year and 2013 has had its fair share of box office successes so far. There have been films that have changed how we see movies forever –others were just enjoyable to watch. There are a good amount of sequels, prequels, and adapted screenplays on our list. What make these films so extraordinary are the frames, the cinematography, and most importantly the way these films are written. So who is on the list of highest grossing films?

15. G.I. Joe: Retaliation ($122,523,060)

This sequel surprisingly has a better rating than the first movie. On IMDB, it has a rating of 5.9, while G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra has a rating of 5.7. The sequel was not too different compared to the first. It has rising action events, a climax, and then a falling action. We all usually know how these movies end because the good guys always win. If you love action packed movies and great use of CGI, then this is the movie for you! The movie has a well-known cast and there are some crazy turns of events in the film that may surprise you.

14. Grown Ups 2 ($127,569,878)

How to: Avoid a Rough Finals Week

Finals week is a rough week for most students because we decide to procrastinate and try to cram a quarter’s full of work in just a few days. We’ve all done it and regretted it. We promise ourselves to study early next time, but then we go ahead and do it again the next quarter. Why do we procrastinate so much?

When the quarter begins, we promise ourselves that we will keep up with the reading, do all the work, and study in advance for our exams. Simple, right? On the contrary, it is very difficult to keep up with everything once you find out how much the workload for each class is, work, have internships, and are involved in school organizations. When all these activities are added together, we realize we are just too tired to do some of the work for that day, so we put it off for tomorrow. That “tomorrow” turns into the day before your final, cramming all your work into one day. So what can you do about it?

1.      Create a strict schedule for yourself

HIS Campus: An Article Just for HIM

Alright guys! I want to help you learn how to survive being with a girl. All girls come in different shapes, sizes, personalities, and more and I want to help you!

What do girls want? Why can’t they just be happy? Why can’t girls stop complaining? No need to fear, Stephanie is here!

We all know that when it comes to the opposite sex, males and females are difficult to deal with and understand. We both think to ourselves “WTF do girls/boys want!” Right now I want to help guys out a bit. I have split up girls into a few categories since we are all different, and these categories are the more general and common type. (Warning: this is all based on years of observations and opinions. Enjoy!)

I would say I am humble, considerate of others, very outgoing and social as well as very open minded to try and experience new things.

Currently I am only a full time student seeing as how I am nearing graduation I am focusing on academics. However I am a part of Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority Inc., (currently an inactive member).

Who is your celebrity crush?

My celeb crush is Ryan Gosling. I am obsessed with the way he looks as well as I love the sensitivity and passion he portrays in his most successful roles.

What has been your best school year so far?

This is by far the hardest question because I can truly say I love all 5 of my years here at UCR. I would say academically it would be my 4th year because I truly was more focused on school and getting my GPA higher, while socially each year has brought me new experiences that are not comparable to one another so honestly I cannot choose just one.

If you knew today was your last day, what would do?
