On April 26th collegiettes from all over San Francisco popped in the Madewell store at the Westfield Mall for an event with a splash of pink. The event hosted by the USF and SF State Her Campus branches was the first time both groups of city ladies were able to come together to celebrate the launch of both branches this past school year.
From the moment collegiettes entered the event they were surrounded by the new adorable summer clothing from Madewell, sweet treats, Izze drinks, and free massages! Let us not forget that all of the items were 30% off, which I know our event goers were very, very thankful for.
Of course, there were a few lucky ladies who won the raffle prizes. We would like to thank our generous raffle donors: Origins, Salted Stones, Bubbles Boutique, Hilside Bags, and Bobbi Brown. Congratulations to all of you lucky collegiettes who won a raffle prize! Also, thank you to the numerous companies that donated items for goodie bags for the first fifteen people at the door!
This event would not have been possible without the wonderful workers at Madewell. On behalf of the USF Her Campus branch, I would like to say a BIG thank you to Madewell! Make sure to put in your calendars the Madewell Denim Road Trip that will be coming to SF on May 16th from 12-7 pm on Grant Ave. and Geary St. Check their Facebook page for more information!

What would it be like to be honored by the White House as a Champion of Change? Well, USF faculty member in the Politics Department, Dr. Wanjiru Kamau-Rutenberg, can tell you all about it. Seven years ago, Wanjiru founded the international organization, Akili Dada, to help increase women’s voices in decision making in Kenya. Wanjiru is one of the inspirational women leaders in the world who saw a major problem, wanted to do something about it, and actually went out and made a difference. Don’t be surprised if you hear her name more often in the future!
Where are you from? Nairobi, Kenya but I am also a U.S. citizen. I came to the U.S. when I was fourteen.
What exactly is Akili Dada?
Akili Dada is a leadership incubator and we’re trying to increase the number of African women who are engaged in decision-making, not just political decision making, but everything from the community level to corporate, civil society government and everything in between. We are essentially saying we have to have African women at the table who are making constructive, progressive contributions to debates.
What was your reaction when you found out you were receiving this honor?
I was sitting at my desk and I glanced over at my e-mail and about fell off my chair. I found out about two weeks before the award in January. It has been a total game changer for Akili Dada since then. |

DELTA ZETA! We do a lot of philanthropy events, such as TTAT and Relay for life on campus, and recently had our Greek Week events!
Fun fact?
I am currently addicted to Stumbleupon.com and go on for at least an hour everyday.
Describe your perfect guy.
Well this difficult. I definitely seem to have a thing for guys with brown hair and who are athletic. I definitely like a guy who I can workout with. My perfect guy would also be hilarious and always have me laughing. Also, he would get along with my friends and go out with us. He would be smart, but not arrogant (it’s possible) and know what he wants to do with his life. He would be extremely adventurous, down to go rock-climbing or skydiving with me, but down to earth and loved by my family.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Hm...I would say the show, The Bachelor. It is probably the one show I get way too tied up in and actually yell at the tv (laughs.) |

Age: 18 Housing: Hayes-Healy Hometown: Burlingame, CA Major: Design Relationship Status: Single
Meet this week's campus cutie, Jeremy Kim. When he's not riding around on his bike looking dashing as ever, he's probably sketching away. A man that understands a woman and appreciates fashion, now that's a keeper.
Three words to describe you? Quiet, complex, and distinct.
What are your interests/hobbies?
Art, skating, bikes, and fashion.
What do you look for in a girl?
Sense of style, smile, and maturity level.
Biggest pet peeve?
When people lie and fake the funk.
Your favorite part of USF so far?
Meeting new friends.
What do you want to do in the future?
I want to integrate illustration skills into fashion and other product design. A clothing line could be a small future project, making sweaters, tees, and hats/beanies for young people, but I'm more interested in fashion illustration and working with colors and patterns. The fashion industry is where I see myself, but I am still discovering new ways to express ideas in trendy and fun ways.
Something unique?
My sister owns X-Generation on Haight. |

Well, basically ruler of the world. After I survive December 21, 2012 the Earth will need a new ruler, I will step in and guide us through post-apocalyptic issues. Hopefully I’ll have enough education from my major within the next ten months in order to economically help our world.
