Marvin Lee

Whether we’re strolling around campus or rushing to class, most of us pay little to no attention to those we classify as nothing more than peers. Often times, we’ll stop to look at another person’s outfit or shudder at the awkward exchanging of eyes, but what we often forget is that everyone loves the idea of making new friends. So the next time you’re walking onto campus or accidentally bump into that someone you have a secret crush on, remember that you can automatically brighten another person’s day by simply holding the door for them or smiling when you unintentionally make eye contact. Who knows? That someone you encounter may be single and ready to mingle, like our newest campus cutie, Marvin Lee.

2. How do you describe your personality/style?
My personality is chill. I go with the flow, I love to try new things and expreince everything out there. Just like Nike's slogan "Just Do It"

Would You Date Your School?

3/27/2013

Are you still single? Looking? Or maybe you’ve realized that your laziness has taken over all your plans for spring break. Well, don’t you worry – I’ve got a new distraction for you (as if we all don’t have enough already…).

I’m sure many us of came into college with the mentality that with thousands of students on campus, there must be someone for everyone. But realistically, that’s not always the case. We meet people on and off campus, but how many of us can say that we met the person we’re talking to online?

At some point, we were or still are, curious about online dating. Some of us may have tried it, while others may just sit back and laugh at those who have. But after seeing all the DateMySchool posters on campus, doesn’t it make you wonder what it’s really like?

Here are some quick facts to give you a little more info about what this site has to offer:

Ranier Rivera

2/25/2013

With so many students on campus, it is often difficult to get to know someone personally. Whether you’re exchanging small smiles, awkward glances, or long, eye- capturing stares, it’s likely that you don’t know much about your peers aside from their names and majors. So here’s to getting to know one of our UCR student a little bit more – Ranier Rivera was one of our two entertainingly funny hosts of our talent show!

The Basics:
-Year: First Year
-Major: Undeclared CNAS/Hopefully declaring Biochemistry
-Hometown: Brea
-Interests: Basketball, football, soccer, music, clothes, watches, poetry

Getting to Know Him:
1. What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about leaving my mark here at UCR and making my parents proud. I want everyone to know my name and have a good image about me when they do.

2. How do you describe your personality/style?
I am very outgoing and love to meet new people. However, I do need some time for myself. I love spending days in my room just watching television and movies. I am a big family and friend person. I consider my friends part of my extended family and treat them as if they were siblings.

5 Reasons You're Still Single

2/14/2013

February 14, Valentine’s Day - the yearly reminder to the single folks that you’re still single. I’m no relationship expert and I have no complaints about being single (aside from the fact that all my friends are coupled up today), but sometimes, doesn’t it make you wonder why you’re still alone? Here’s a list of a few reasons why you may still be single, hopefully you’re not guilty of them all.

1. You compare him to your exs’
You may have been in love with the last guy, but that doesn’t mean you should dwell over him. You can’t expect your new crush to make the same cute little face that your ex always did to make you giggle. Everyone is different, and you should appreciate having a new, refreshing relationship, rather than trying to change it back into your old one.

2. You’re looking too hard
We all have that friend that’s always on the lookout. Whether you’re out eating lunch or just sitting in class, they’re ready to talk to the next somewhat good-looking person they see. Well, even though they’re eager and friendly, sometimes being too eager isn’t a good thing. (Think Gigi from He’s Just Not That Into You) Be friendly if you meet someone new, but don’t expect every guy you meet to be your next boyfriend.

Campus Cuties: Aaron & Lauren

2/13/2013

With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, you can’t help but to notice those couples around campus who are getting a little more lovey-dovey. And for those of us who are single, we can’t help but to feel a little bit left out. But who says that this day only applies to significant others? Valentines Day is a cute little way of showing those you love, that you care and appreciate them. Our campus cuties, Aaron and Lauren happen to be BFFs who met by chance, but are now closer than ever. They met only a few years ago in class since Lauren overslept for her discussion and had to go to Aaron’s. Now, they’re best friends who also happen to make a great musical duo (they did a medley of songs from Pitch Perfect recently at our talent show!).

Getting to Know Him

1. How do you describe your personality/style? A friendly and outgoing person who is passionate about many things and sometimes has too much energy and enthusiasm. I like to dress up even when I don't have to so a shirt and tie some days, and LRG clothing the rest.

2. Do you have a valentine this year? Nope, but I'll probably hand out some of those Valentine cards to random people like we did in elementary school!

3. What are your plans for Valentines Day? Class, tutor my students (I'll give them some Avengers Valentine Card's and candy or something), then watch Wreck It Ralph and eat ice cream by myself.

The Makeup Brand You Need to Know About!

1/22/2013

Ladies, let’s face it: as much as we’d like to buy everything we want from Sephora, our budgets definitely cannot permit it. Makeup and beauty items are part of my everyday routine, and if I’m using these products everyday, the expenses really do add up. But who says you can’t get the same results with drugstore makeup? I’ve recently discovered a few cosmetics brand that I have really liked, and I knew I had to share them with you all! Oh, and might I mention that most, if not all of these products are within the price range of $2-9. They’re a total steal!!

Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics (available at Rite Aid)

Products Mentioned:

I’d usually save my favorite for last, but if you love nail polish as much as I do, you’ll understand my excitement. My definite favorite product from Jesse’s Girl is their nail polish. The particular ones I have are from the JulieG collection, for those of you familiar with her on YouTube. They have a wide range of colors, meaning you’ll most likely find one (or maybe five…) that you’ll like. Also, depending on the color you have, you can get an opaque finish with just 1 coat! (Cabana Boy & A Star Is Born are my personal faves)

Top Fall Beauty Products (All Under $10!)

11/9/2012

Us girls know by now that it costs more than we’d like to admit to look presentable after staying up till 3am mindlessly browsing the internet. Add in the expenses of college, and the fact that there are plenty of other things we want to buy (clothes, shoes, jewelry...) and actually need to buy, our debit cards are emptying out by the swipes. Beauty products can take a toll on our wallets, but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives in the drugstores that we can get our hands on. Oh, and did I mention that all these products are under $10?! Yup, y’all better plan that next Target trip soon if you don’t already own these.

1. Elf blush - Looking a little pale and deadly in the morning? A flush of color on the cheeks can make a significant difference on how you look. And for $3? You can’t beat that.

2. Maybelline Baby lips - Not only do they smell delicious, but they also make your lips feel super moisturized and give you an extra tint of color. Yay, no more chapped lips!

Chuk Okafor

6/5/2012

With spring quarter coming to an end, it’s an unfortunate time to say our goodbyes to friends who live down the hall and for some people, their significant others who live hundreds of miles away. While now may not be the best time to start a new relationship, don’t limit yourself to hermit-mode for finals and a summer alone in front of the tv just yet. Always keep your options open, girl! You might just happen to meet someone like our campus cutie, Chuk Okafor. Plus, who wouldn’t want a cutie to talk to during the summer?

Getting to Know Him

1. What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about fitness and living life to the fullest.

2. How do you describe your personality/style?
I would describe myself as charismatic and apparently I can be loud and cocky at times.

3. Ideal place for a summer date?
My ideal place for a summer date is the beach. There are plenty of options like playing volleyball, splurging money at the stores, or even building sandcastles.

4. Worst/best qualities in a girl?
Worst quality has to be the inability to hold a conversation or shyness. The Best quality is a sense of humor; I'm all about comedy so if she can't make me laugh I won't have a good time.

5. Are you looking for a summer fling?
I wouldn't say I am looking for one but I'm always open to the idea.

Campus Trends: Hot Weather Approved Styles

5/28/2012

Ugh, I’m not even half-way near my next class, and I’m already drenched in my own sweat. You all know what that means. It’s that time of year again that everyone here in Riverside, especially me, dreads -- the summertime. Simple tasks like walking to class and staying on campus just got even harder in this 90-100 degree weather.

Now that it’s mid-spring, it’s time to show some skin and get your tan on for the summer. That doesn’t mean, however, that you need to invest in an entire new wardrobe. Spring styles work perfectly in the summertime, too! Whether you love or (absolutely, 100%) hate the heat, here’s a few styles prominent amongst UCR students that are suitable to rock till the end of summer!

1. Tank and Shorts
Jeans may still feel comfortable now that it’s mildly warm, but let’s be real here: no one wants to rip-off their pants from their sweaty legs after class. Shorts are your best friend in the summer and they’re extremely versatile, from denim, khaki, ro colors, and to prints. They can be paired perfectly with a tank top, for both guys and girls, too. Tanks for guys have been a growing trend amongst the male population on campus, and as girls we already know the styles of tank tops are limitless in the summer.

2. Footwear
Foot tans are unfortunately inevitable in the summer. Save yourself some space in the laundry by sticking to flip flops or sandals in this weather. They’re especially handy to slip on when you’re late to class!

3. Button ups
Button ups, button downs, whatever you may call them, they’re making a fashion statement here on campus more than ever. Most male button ups are made of breathable cotton, making them perfect for the warm weather. And for the girls, tying up the ends of your button ups never fails to give off a casual, but adorable addition to your outfit.

Concert Wardrobe

4/23/2012

With the weather warming up, everyone’s pulling out their springtime clothes and putting away those chunky sweaters and coats. Spring Splash is right around the corner and of course, you want to look and feel your best at the last concert of the school year! This warm weather is the best kind for versatile items such as shorts, tanks, and dresses. Not sure what to wear? Don’t fret -- here’s some tips to catch a few glances at Spring Splash:

Ladies:

Spring dresses and rompers look cute alone, but paired with a denim jacket or a light cardigan can add color and warmth for nighttime outings. Frayed denim shorts and colored shorts can add a bit of edge to a simple black or white v-neck. Lastly, you can never go wrong with shorts and a cute blouse or tank. Sheer button ups have been super popular lately, as well as patterned tops. For the floral lovers, floral is always an “in” print for the warmer months.
