HCIU's Favorite D.I.Y Crafts From Pinterest

12/21/2011

If you haven’t discovered Pinterest yet, you’re seriously missing out. Pinterest gives every collegiette™ amazing D.I.Y crafts to turn your dorm or apartment from drab to fab. It also has some great pointers for spicing up your wardrobe. The D.I.Y section is easy, fun, and makes for great gifts you can craft for your friends’ birthdays on a starving college student’s budget. Here are some of HCIU’s favorites.

When your bank account is at its lowest, you can still get a cute new shirt for date night or drinks with your friends. If your man or brother (or the racks of Goodwill) has a polo shirt they no longer like, you can turn it into an off-the-shoulder tee to dress up with skinny jeans and cute heels. Button up the buttons and turn the shirt around. Cut off the collar, but be sure to leave the buttons for an added element if you wear your hair up. This pinner sewed the sleeves to be more fitted, but even if you don’t own a sewing machine it will still be adorable. Dress up your new top with accessories—a belt, some attention-grabbing heels, and a necklace—and voila, let the compliments roll in.

Every collegiette shares one common problem—never being able to find bobby pins when you’re trying out a cute new style or having a surplus all over your floor. Either way, bobby pins can be one of the more frustrating elements of your day-to-day life. Who would’ve thought that there could be such a simple solution? Put a strip of magnet tape up on the wall behind your vanity. Now every time you take your hair down, you just put them on the strip. This quick fix will make getting ready less stressful.

How to Get a Man's Attention During Football Season (Yes, It's Possible!)

12/5/2011

Growing up in Indiana, I knew everything there was to know about basketball and nothing about football. When the Colts started getting big, my brothers made it very clear that I needed to learn a thing or two about the sport when I had to ask what an interception was. Football used to seem long and boring, but after picking up the basics I was hooked.

Just like girls love when their boyfriend gets along with their friends, guys love when a girl can chill with the boys. So, as we’re in the heart of football season with the Super Bowl quickly approaching, this article will teach you all you need to know.

The next time you find yourself in a sports pub to eat on Sunday afternoon or Monday night and notice a cute guy by the bar, rattle off some of this basic terminology and he’ll be putty in your hands.

Downs
The offense has four chances to get a first down. Basically this means that the team with the ball has four tries to move forward ten yards. So, when the announcers say “first and ten” or “second and eight,” that’s telling you which attempt they’re on and how much farther they have to go to get the necessary yardage. If the announcer says “first and goal,” it means that they’re on their first attempt and have ten or less yards to get to the end zone and score. Even though each team gets four chances to advance, they very rarely will chance the fourth try. Instead, they usually kick.

The 8 Guys You'll Date at IU

11/17/2011

Throughout your college career, you meet a lot of new guys. You hit it off with some, and with others it just isn’t in the cards—but all of them yield some pretty interesting stories. Heart ache or “no-hard-feelings,” every interaction, every relationship has an impact on your life no matter how briefly things lasted. They teach you how you want to be treated and the different qualities you need in a future boyfriend. So, even though some of these guys have dragged me through hell and back, I don’t regret any of my past relationships because sometimes, you just have to learn things for yourself—the hard way. All the guys that I’ve met at IU fall into some pretty specific categories, so this is, in my opinion, the eight types of guys that every girl will come across in college.

The Guy Who Thinks He’s God’s Gift to Women

We’ve all had them—the oh-so-attractive smooth talkers that you just can’t help but fall for. Whether he’s a jock, the token frat boy, or just an asshole (or in my case, various combinations of all of the above) every girl has had their fair share of this type. You can never help getting involved with these guys; they’re like modern day sirens. They catch your eye with their good looks and they know exactly what to say to reel you in. Even when your friends try to warn you, you always think that you’re the exception to the rule with this one. Wrong. Be careful because these guys could either have girlfriends that they are cheating on with you, or they’re cheating on you with other girls. Run as fast as you can from these guys because they only lead to tears.
