Studying in Style

5/4/2013

On this dreary, rainy, finals day, many of us have struggled to even change out of sweatpants. Props to these studious collegiettes who rocked the stacks in style. Looking for an A+ library wardrobe? Throw on colored denim instead of leggings or sweats, and a leather jacket instead of your favorite hoodie. Happy studying!

Slithering Styles

10/3/2012

If you’re a fan of animal print styles and a fashionista who loves her neutral palette: come slither this way. It’s time to take a walk on a different side of the urban jungle.

Collegiettes, whisper hello to snake print!

There are so many reasons to crawl head over heels for snake inspired trends. Snake prints evoke a sultry and sophisticated aura. They are a fresh departure from the popularity of patterns from the cat family. It’s so simple to incorporate a hint of snake into your wardrobe; most snake print pieces don’t venture too far from the earthy color tones of grey, brown, and black. Even better, with great ease, you can twist the trend from day-to-night.

I’d recommend wrapping yourself in no more than one snake print piece per outfit. With any more scales than that you may come across as a Steve Irwin groupie.

Wrist Revelry

9/29/2012

Looking to ride out a sugar high, without the candied jitters and the draining sugar crash? Make arm candy your drug of choice. Feed your addiction by loading your wrist with various types of bracelets, bangles and cuffs to achieve that sugary-chic punch of style.

Add doses of your own personal flavor by mixing in a unique threaded creation, some savory studs, or intervene with a statement skull piece. Don’t shy away from mixing metals or fusing unexpected colors and textures. Try dealing out a bold statement cuff with some beaded beauties and luxe leather wrap bracelets.

Fuel the party by rolling an array of funky pieces onto your wrists; there’s no overdosing in rocking arm candy.

Man Repeller, a high-profile fashion blogging icon, is the queen of arm candy. The Man Repeller pioneered this trend by trade marking her own outrageously cool combinations of wrist revelry: “arm parties.” Man Repeller’s arm parties’ exhibit her signature pairing of playful pieces with timeless, designer watches or cuffs. Pure fashion euphoria.

(One of Man Repeller’s quirky wrist ragers)

While some may hesitate to roll up a full-blown rager on their wrist, this arm party trend is an open invite. Every fashionista should always indulge in, at least, a light frosting of an arm soiree. What are you waiting for? Enter the ecstasy.

Clear and Colorful Accessories

4/29/2012

As you already know Highlighter Hues are a huge trend this spring season, yet fashion never fails to take things to the next level. Now that you’ve mastered working neon into your ensemble, allow me to introduce you to the heightened way to flaunt those hues. Take your neons to the next level by introducing a Lucite feel into the look. Sheer materials and cutout illusions are all the rage in your other garments, so it’s time to infuse the same transparent tendencies into your accessories.

Here are some suggestions on how to rock the chic combination of clear and colorful:

Not only is this electric yellow jelly bag spot on trend, but bring this bag to any concert or ticketed event and you’ll be sure to earn kudos from the entrance security guards.

Set your sights upon these fuchsia and clear aviator frames. A sure fire way to incorporate the sleekness of the Plexiglas style with the fun of the fluorescent pink color.

Watch closely to see how things are done. Orange you glad you added such a bold and energetic flair to your wrist?

These fluorescent flats truly bring frisky to a whole new level. The transparent paneling paired with the poppin’ pink creates a look that is perfectly girly and perfectly edgy. Did you happen to notice those spikes?

Louboutin Nails

4/17/2012

If you love the trademark red-sole of Christian Louboutin heels, here’s the hottest new nail trend that you absolutely have to try.

The nail design involves swiping a coat of red nail polish (of your choice) underneath the nail area. Clean up the residue pigment with some remover and a Q-tip, and then finish the look by painting the top of the nails with a sexy black (or other Louboutin-esque color of your choice).

Adele may have racked up an impressive number of awards at this year’s Grammy’s, however it’s arguable for some that her Louboutin-inspired nails made an even bigger impression. The sultry songstress sensation painted a luminous silver top polish with red underneath, quite the fashion statement.

There are so many ways to rock this trend and make it your very own! With the exception of possibly growing out your nails, what are you waiting for?

Big Floppy Hats

4/16/2012

Royal weddings. Baseball games. Graduation day.

These three occasions all have one thing in common. Haven’t figured it out? It’s a three-letter word…

HAT.

And, there’s absolutely no reason to only limit yourself to these circumstances for rocking one. Hats are a hot, hot fashion statement to flaunt this hot, hot season.

Daring to be as mad as a hatter? A big floppy hat is a must try.

This possibly surprising trend is no longer just for concerned mothers lathering their Pampers swaddled two-year-old in SPF 70 at the beach.

Although rocking a floppy hat at the beach will do wonders for protecting your skin and saving the highlights, of which your colorist slaved to put in the foils.

Floppy hats do not need to be worn solely with flippy-flops. This oversized hair accessory is to be worn with a versatility of styles!

Be sure to wear it, without letting it wear you.

Hats off, Collegiettes!

Having a Signature Scent

4/5/2012

Do you love your Victoria’s Secret body mist? Ooh, or what about the Marc Jacobs perfume your bestie bought for you on your birthday? Aw yes, I’m sure you do… and I have no doubt that they smell wonderful. I sincerely have no doubt because I have personally gotten whiffs of those scents countless times.

I’m lucky that I have received good advice in my life, but one piece has truly stuck with me: A woman should always have a signature drink, and a signature scent. Skipping to the second bit of that, Collegiettes, get ready to embrace your individuality and womanhood!

Scent is extremely important. Scent is the true first impression; people can often smell you before they even get to see the beautiful, cool, intelligent person you are. Owning a signature scent is a sacred rule of feminism that Gretchen Weiners didn’t have time to squeeze into the mere 97 minutes of running time. Knowing that, it’s time to make it count.

Sunglasses Trends: Summer 2012

3/30/2012

While Rihanna may have had her Ray-Bans on and feelin’ hella cool a few months ago, now is the time to cheers to a bold, fresh, and colorful departure from the iconic metal-framed aviator and black wayfarer lens.

Summer is still a few months away… but lucky for us Emory girls reppin’ Hotlanta, we can get a head start on rocking the hottest new sunglasses trends!

The first trend to set your sights on is the sassy, classy “cat-eye” style. The layout has been featured in a variety of shapes and hues. This style evokes a feminine, quirky-cool vibe that is one not to be looked past.

Another alluring optical trend to look out for is the return of gradient lens sunglasses. These two-toned lenses may call to mind the glam bug-eyed sunglasses frequently flaunted by Nicole Richie, yet there are copious ways make this style your own.

The final fashionable frames featured this runway season may not be for the weak hearted. It may come as a bit of a surprise that any pair of colorful, plastic, and funky shape is right on trend. Whimsical and bright sunglasses are the core trend to warm up to this sunny season.

How to: Dress for the Gym and Class

3/29/2012

Let’s face it, there are never enough hours in the day. It’s hard finding the time to go to class, study, keep up with friends, and still maintain the healthy habit of powering out to your favorite playlist at the WoodPEC. Whether you live in Dobbs or Gables, finding the motivation to change out of your lecture hall attire and into apparel more fit for breaking just a little bit of a sweat at the gym is a work out in its own right.

Here it is: your style guide for dressing trendy for class and cute for the gym – all in one outfit.

First, I’d like to stress a key precondition for getting dressed. Always remember: You never know who you might run into. At the library or on the elliptical, looking your best is important to achieve the beautiful confidence of feeling your best.

Skip out on the baggy t-shirt and sweatpants “look,” no matter how tempting it may be.
Also, investing in some fabulous new workout clothes will inspire your well-dressed-self to work out more!

When it comes to dressing for the gym: “It’s all about the black and neon,” according to my most trusted fashion-savvy and gym-frequenting friend.

Quality spandex performance leggings are flattering and make for perfect workout wear. I recommend sticking to the classic black coloring.

Pair your black workout pants with a solid-colored performance tank top. If you’re not quite ready to part with your t-shirt wearing ways, reppin’ some school spirit with an Emory crew neck shirt is the way to go.

Golden Globes 2012 Fashion

1/24/2012

Last Sunday evening (January 15th), The 2012 Golden Globes hit the Hollywood scene. Glamorous movie and television stars dazzled the red carpet. My favorite season, awards-season of course, is in full swing. In addition to awards handed out to Stars for their “Best Performances,” the Stars also displayed winning-looks on the red carpet. Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, and Salma Hayek adorned my most favorite red carpet looks of the night.

Why are they so fabulous? How can you be fabulous, too? Keep reading.

Charlize Theron was hands down, my personal pick for best dressed of the night. She really wowed in a spectacular plunging, blush colored Dior Couture gown. Her dress was a true exemplification of how to pull off the upcoming spring trend of wearing pastel/pale colors. I absolutely adored her choice in hairstyle of a low, tousled, side bun – garnished with a sparkling Cartier headband. So, maybe skip out on the Cartier… but this is a beautiful, and easy up-do to recreate on your own. Although, what truly pulled Charlize’s winning look together was her confidence. Chalize looked elegant, poised, stunning – and girl knew it and worked it!
