In Need of A Study Break? Websites to Peak Every Her Campus Girl’s Interests

6/11/2012

Ahh finals week, a time when sleep deprivation, camp outs at Sci Li, and endless hours of cramming a quarter’s worth of knowledge into a few days are the norm. Chances are you have already been going HAM this week and last week for your various finals or papers (all while dressing well and testing well of course) and are in much need of a break. Here are a few websites for when you need a mental reprieve in between studying for that Spanish final and writing that 10-page Anthro paper (besides parousing our beloved hercampus.com).

WARNING: THESE WEBSITES ARE ADDICTING!

For the Fashionista - Red Carpet Fashion Awards

By far the best fashion blog when it comes to seeing who wore what at red carpet events worldwide as well as giving sneak previews of cover photo shoots and editorials for magazines like Elle, Vogue, and other high end publications.

For the Beauty Addict – The Beauty Department
This site is written by Lauren Conrad (of The Hills and Laguna Beach fame) and friends. For articles on trendy beauty looks as well as video tutorials, this is your place to go.

Dress Well, Test Well.

As the majority of the Highlander population heads into finals, so do many of us head straight for our beloved campus libraries, Thomas Rivera Library and Orbach Science Library (which has been lovingly nicknamed Sci Li), for endless hours of studying and paper writing. However, taking up residency in the bibliotheca does not mean that HerCampus girls need to start looking like ragamuffins especially when this time of the quarter that the library is the place to see and be seen. In fact, statistics show that those who dress in normal clothing actually perform better on exams versus those who wear work out or lounging attire because taking the time to get ready rather than rolling out of bed and heading to an exam allows for one to be more alert.

Looking polished for hitting the books does not have to be as difficult as taking your O.Chem test. To simplify this, consider these no brainer rules:

Incorporate neutral tones; Neutrals are calming and tend to look chicer when it comes to wearing basics.

ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE; Nothing pulls an outfit together or gives it the illusion of being more dressy than accessories. Try incorporating hairaccessories such as headbands or bows, scarves, and light jewelry that won’t be distracting (i.e. no chandelier earrings, statement necklaces, charm bracelets, etc.) Don’t wear anything too tight/revealing or short; Study time is no time to be scantily clad! Wear layers; Libraries tend to be chilly so always be prepared! Stick to knit, stretchy fabrics; I.e. Ones that are comfortable and more importantly won’t wrinkle.
