It's ACC Tournament Time!

3/7/2012
ACC Tournament Time!ACC Tournament Well, the Wolfpack were able to finish off strong with some must-win games that ended ACC Tournament Time!   Well, the Wolfpack were able to finish off strong with some must-win games that ended

Well the Wolfpack was able to finish off strong with some must-win games that ended their season being the 5th seed in the ACC Tournament, with a final record of 9-7 in the conference. Even though we just missed out on having a first round by, we will be playing Boston College, a team that we have beaten twice this year and should beat again coming into the tournament. BC has trouble scoring in a lot of ways and we need to keep our scoring up like we have in the last two games, with great outings from Leslie, Wood, Brown, and the rest of the team. The tournament is held in Atlanta this year and the Wolfpack will be playing at 2:00 against BC on ESPNU. With a victory that we HAVE to have, we will end up facing a very good and defensive minded team in Virginia, which would help with our resume for the NCAA tournament. We can all smell it in the air; it’s that time of the year of when dreams are made and crushed. It’s tournament time!

ACC Matchup: NC State vs. Duke

2/17/2012

Sorry, I’ve been on a little vacation over the past week but now I’m back and looking
ahead at the matchup that the Wolfpack will have when they travel down the road to
Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on # 4 Duke. Duke had a great week with wins over
UNC and Maryland and look to keep their momentum going with a good victory against
the Wolfpack. This is a chance for the Wolfpack to get their signature win that they
need to help boost their resume for March Madness. State has won their last three but has struggled a little bit with some of their opponents that are on the bottom of the ACC. Defending Duke can be simple at times but State will have to work hard on the boards and not let Duke get around the defenders by using screens. Duke will shoot threes and everyone knows it; however, State needs to help on defense and make Duke become a team that shoots inside the arc. Rebounding will be important in the game and Leslie and Howell will have to control the Plumlee’s down low. S. Wood has been shooting a little bit better since the UNC game from three and should be able to get some shots off because of the smaller guards on Duke. However, NC State should attack the rim and make these guards get in their face, allowing the three to open a little more, which in turn will allow the big guys down low create some space. This would be a win that would put the Wolfpack right back in the race for the ACC and would help tremendously to boost their resume for their chances to get in the NCAA Tournament.

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. NC State Wolf pack Recap

1/29/2012
It was the game that we thought we finally could beat UNC and show that the Wolf pack was back. This has been are best start in conference play and for the season in a lot of years, starting 4-1 in conference with dominating victories over ACC opponents and with a 15-5 record overall. Now we all knew that UNC was a good team, but this team seemed like our best team that had the most chemistry together; the upset could happen.

The Legend That Will Never be Forgotten: Joe Paterno

1/24/2012

Joe Paterno passed away Sunday after battling with lung cancer that seemed to take a 360 degree turn and became life threatening. The man called all his family members and friends to gather around because he knew it was his time to go. It was a sad way for this man to go, especially with the latest news about Penn State and what has gone all around the campus.

Joe Paterno coached his last season at Penn State and its hard not to believe that everything that happened and surrounded him, had to take some effect on the man down the stretch. Coach Paterno was not only the head coach of Penn State football for 46 years, he was not only the coach with the most wins (409 wins overall), but he was also a teacher, a motivator, and a man that had inspired so many to what the game is today. He has sculpted many young men into great men and has led the way for coaches of generations after to learn and lead just like he did.

Inside Potential NFL Player: Terrell Manning

1/10/2012
Terrell, if you could sum up this past season in one word, how would you explain it and why?

Triumph. The football team went through a lot but stayed together and made it a successful season, even with injury and everything we went through in the beginning.

What do you think turned this team around in the second part of the season?

Just having everyone back and healthy. Myself included.

What will be the best memory that you take away from the past season?

The win over Clemson. No one believed that we could do it but us. We not only won, but it wasn't even close.

What made you decide to attend NC State over the other schools that offered you a scholarship?

I really don't know why I fell for State. Because of State fans; they fell for me and the game atmosphere was the best. Plus I'm a "home" guy being from North Carolina.

If you intend to stay in the draft, what is the most important thing you will take away from your time at State?

Fast Break Sports: Let's Bring in the New Year!

Well, 2011 has come and gone and it is now time to start looking towards 2012. I hope everyone had a great break and was able to enjoy the holidays, but here is a little break down of what is happening with the Wolfpack, even though the past couple of weeks in the world of sports has been a little slow.

Men’s basketball played two games at the RBC center. The first game, the Wolfpack struggled against the Campbell team that just seemed to stick around. With the help of Lorenzo Brown, who had a career-high with 24 points, and also going 28 out of 31 from the free throw line, State was able to pull the win out. They also had a game against Western Carolina, which seemed to be a game that State was able to control. The Wolfpack was able to shoot 57.7% from the field and led by 23 at the half, with the lead growing as high as 41 points. State heads into the year with a 10-4 record with a 82-55 win over Western Carolina.

NC State vs. Louisville Recap: Belk Bowl 2011

The night started out with a brisk cold weather that was in the 40’s when kickoff began. With over 58,000 fans in Charlotte, with seemingly more State fans than Louisville, people seemed to feel that this could be a special night for the Wolfpack.

The game started out slow, with both teams feeling out each other, with the score being 7-7 State after one quarter because of a 6-yd pass to T.J. Graham and an early turnover by Mike Glennon that led to a touchdown for Louisville. Once Louisville took the lead, Mike Glennon was able to take advantage of mistakes by the Louisville defense. The Cardinals seemed to have some mishaps in the secondary with players slipping and over-playing on defense which allowed Glennon to throw a 35 yard and 68 yard touchdown pass in the 2nd quarter. NC State was able to increase their lead in the 3rd quarter with an interception by Amerson, who had two interceptions in the game and allowed him to pass D. Bly for the most interceptions in ACC history for a season. Louisville was able to pull close with 2 TD passes, one in the 3rd quarter and one late in the 4th quarter.

Upset Brewing? Preview of NC State vs. Syracuse

12/16/2011

Well State fans, this is the game that you have been waiting for. These are the games that Mark Gottfried was hired for and hoping to bring a new presence to NC State basketball. Syracuse comes to the RBC Center ranked as the number 1 team in the land because of recent losses to Kentucky and Ohio State.

As everyone knows, Syracuse is a physical, tough, and big team that plays mostly a zone against their opponents. They have only been allowing 57 points, while putting up 80 points a game. For an upset to come in Raleigh, the Wolfpack will have to play much better than they have, and if they are able to get a lead, keep it through the second half. In their recent games, they have struggled against opponents they should have beat - or should have destroyed.

In this game, they will have to have their three pointers fall against that zone defense, which will help spread out and make more room for their big players down low. If they are not able to spread out the Syracuse defense, States big men will have no shot down low because of how the Orangemen swarm around players. This is the game that will show where State really is and will show how far they will need to go to become a national powerhouse.

Other Sports News:

- Lady Wolfpack lost to Richmond 72-58 on Thursday night.

Sports Around NC State

12/6/2011

The season is ending for one sport while another sports season has just begun. It is time for fall sports to start winding down and some of the winter sports to start kicking it up a notch.

We can start with football and the recent news we have learned, such as NC State earning a bowl bid to the Belk Bowl. They will face a tough team in Louisville, who was fighting for a spot in a BCS game for a couple of weeks. Louisville will be up to the challenge, even though their offense seems to be stagnant at times; not being able to put up the points that it needs to win the game. Their defense will have to show up to stop NC State because their offense has been taking off recently and if they can continue, while putting a stop with their defense like they have in recent weeks, Louisville might be in a whole quickly. This should be a great matchup for both teams that could be on the rise to better things next season and could be a great win for each program. For those of you who can't go to the game but want to watch, it will be aired on ESPN on Dec 27, 2011 at 8:00pm.

Fast-break Sports: We're Going Bowling!

11/28/2011

Well the season is now over and this is when the long month festival of great college football matchups begins. This year has been one that has had its ups and downs, starting off slow with losses to Wake Forest, Cincinnati, and Georgia Tech. But for some reason, that feels like so long ago and the team that we have seen in the last seven games will be the team that I will remember.

In the last seven games, State was able to have a record of 5-2 with wins over Clemson, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia. It seems like everything started to click with this team and this just might be the start of something good coming with NC State football; however, that has been said in the past. Now this is the time when this team needs to grow, step up, and finish the season off with a bang.

Now if you weren’t at Carter Finley this weekend to see the game, you sure did miss a good one. Maryland came in with a losing record and I’m sure they had intentions of spoiling NC State’s chances of going to a bowl game.

Entering the 3rd quarter, State trailed 41-14 with their hopes slowly heading down the drain. However, the team didn’t quit and was able to cut the lead down to six with much of the 4th quarter still to go. The defense started to step up and it seemed like the Maryland defense was just worn out because of the massive difference in plays each team ran on offense. Mike Glennon was able to take advantage of the situation, throwing for 5 touchdowns and also running another one in. In his best showing this season, this must be a confidence booster for him and the State team. Hopefully he will be able to take that game into the next one so State will be able to finish 8-5 for the season.
