Three PDAs he’s OK with

4/23/2012

No one likes to witness extreme PDA, but we all want to show our man a little love. A little bit of lovin can go a long way. Try these three PDA tricks that your man is sure to love.

1.      Holding Hands
Holding hands is an easy, natural way to show the world that you and your man are an item. Most guys hate a ton of PDA, so holding hands is a subtle way to show affection that he can appreciate.

2.      Kiss on the cheek
No one likes to watch “that couple” at a party making out up against the wall. Greet your bf with a quick kiss on the cheek instead of some tongue action.

3.      Subtle Hugging
Go up behind your man and give him a little hug. This shows him that, while you are both able to do your own thing, you are thinking about him and want to show some affection.

Red Cross Month

3/6/2012

Mark your calendars: March is Red Cross Month. Since 1917, the President of the United States has declared March Red Cross Month, asking our citizens to donate money or blood. Each year, our president dubs the donation month due to the Red Cross’ lack of fund-raising drives post World War I. Bloomington has its very own donation center located at 1 Westport Court.

You can go online to schedule a donation appointment here.

Remember, donating blood one time can save up to three lives! So, make your appointment today!

Lee Hermanek

2/27/2012

Lee Hermanek, junior marketing major, joined a sorority for the sisterhood and service opportunities, and ended up getting way more than she expected. After moving from Risk Management Chair to her sorority's president last year, Lee decided to share her ideas with the rest of the Greek community. She managed to do so by becoming president of the entire Panhellenic Association. This gave her the perfect opportunity to voice her opinions with the rest of the Greek community and the entire ISU campus.

HC: What do you feel are the benefits of being involved in Greek life on campus?
Hermanek: The benefits keep on coming every day for me! I have met lifelong friends, even people from different chapters.  I was given many leadership opportunities that have so many benefits.  I got to make a change in my chapter and I am trying, along with my executive council, to make a change on our current Greek community.

HC: Are you involved in any other clubs/orgs on campus? Also, what are some of your hobbies or interests?
Panhellenic gives me the opportunity to be a part of so much.  I am also a member of the Student Affairs StudentAdvisoryCommittee.  In my spare time I like to run, whether it’s at the rec or outside.  I love to bake, although I am not very good at it…  but at least my treats usually come out of the oven edible!

HC: So, how do you balance all of your schoolwork, meetings, etc?
Hermanek: Sometimes I wish I could add more hours to the day!  My days are always planned from the moment I wake up until the time I go to sleep.  I have a set time for my class, office hours, Panhellenic meetings, and when I need to get my homework done.  I have a calendar for each day and I try to stay as organized as possible.  It’s nice to be busy and always have something to do!

Look great while you get fit

2/23/2012

Working out. Pumping iron. Getting big… or should I say getting small? It not something everyone loves to do, but with spring break bodies on everyone’s minds, we don’t have much of a choice. Here are a few tips on how to look good when you are working up a sweat at the Rec over these next few weeks.

Dress comfortably.
If you’re on the elliptical and your shorts are riding up or your sports bra is too tight, you won’t look good or feel good. A 100% cotton T-shirt will get soaking wet quickly and will stay wet. As a result, you'll be uncomfortable and may be tempted to cut your workout short, according to WebMD.

Tie your hair back.
The less hair you have on your neck, the less you will sweat. Don’t be one of those girls that attempts to run with her hair down and curled. A tight headband can do wonders!

Go with the natural look.
Make-up at the Rec is a no-no. It will just melt off your face anyway. Go with a fresh look. Use a tinted moisturizer and tinted lip balm to add a bit of color to your face if you’d like to look more feminine.

Get the (most comfortable) newest kicks.
If you are wearing the latest running shoes in hot pink to match your favorite yoga pants, you’ll feel great about the looks you get from the cute boys on the weight machines.

Bring a sweat rag and a water bottle.
Let’s face it; we all sweat when we are spending an hour on the treadmill running like hamsters on a wheel. Bring a small washcloth to use to dab the sweat off of your forehead. Don’t forget a water bottle! It’s easier to grab a sip from your water bottle than to jump on and off your machine to run to the water fountain.

Less is more.
