Sparty's Spring Party

4/13/2012

Spring fever has officially infected Michigan State’s campus as yet another school year is winding down.  What better way to celebrate all of our hard work then at the 11th annual Sparty’s Spring Party?

The party is set to kickoff Saturday April 14th at 2p.m. and thanks to the Student Alumni Foundation, the University Activities Board, and the Residence Halls Association there will be no shortage of things to do this year.  Some of the activities include bungee basketball, glitter airbrush tattoos, caricature artists, photo booths and everyone’s personal favorite, inflatable pedestal jousting.  There will also be giveaways throughout the duration of the party such as free popcorn, cotton candy, and Frisbees.  Our famous canine friend, the new Zeke the Wonder Dog and even Sparty himself, will make special appearances.

The Student Alumni Foundation has played an essential role in the annual Sparty’s Spring Party, and really helps to make the event a success each year.  Amongst the activities that will be taking place around campus is one of the more popular ones, the annual 3-on-3-basketball tournament.   The tournament will include teams of all talent levels from all over Michigan State’s campus.  Those teams strong enough to survive will receive some pretty fantastic prizes.  Prizes in the past have included $1000 to the Spartan Bookstore and autographed merchandise from the legendary Tom Izzo himself.  The tournament will take place at IM West from 12-4p.m.  Students wishing to register can visit www.saf.msu.edu.

Food For Thought

12/14/2011

‘Tis the season to be healthy! With finals week here approaching, many students are gearing up for the end of the semester and making their way to the library for those all night study sessions and some last minute cramming.  We all know that finals are stressful, and sometimes that triggers bad eating habits. But did you know that there are foods that can actually boost brainpower? So instead of reaching for the chips and cookies try one of these brain-boosting treats!

5 brain-boosting snacks:

Apples have a huge amount of quercetin, which is an antioxidant plant chemical that keeps you on top of your mental game and protects brain cells. They’re also easy to grab when you’re in a hurry.

Almonds are rich in protein, which is essential for healthy brain function. The brain uses amino acids found in almonds. These chemicals can also boost energy levels and promote mental well-being.
