What to Wear: Airplane Travel Outfits and Tips

4/13/2012

April is officially here, and with it, of course, come term papers (please notice there is more than one term papers to write...), finals, and severe sleep deprivation. You know where this is going, right? Summer is almost here—only a few more weeks and you collegiettes will definitely be smiling at life all over again.

This got me thinking about plans, exciting adventures, and long flights to Europe with your girlfriends. But, as much fun as vacations are, the long, very long flights are definitely difficult, and if you are like me, deciding what to wear is even tougher: you want to be comfortable through your flights and your transfers and at the same time, you want to show up looking chic and not like a total slob! You never know who you are going to see on that plane.

Fear not—I have created a comfy but cute outfit for travel. Even if you are not flying, these are still great for car and bus rides. I also included a list of some general “do’s and don’ts” to help you look great, just like your outfit!

Campus Fashion

3/12/2012

We always pay attention to how we dress at the beginning of the semester. Everyone takes the time to pick an outfit, accessories to match the outfit, and some girls will even take their time to decide what they are going to do with their hair (not talking about me here!).

Before you know it, readings begin piling up—it’s already paper season and you just do not have the time to prepare your outfits for school anymore. As homework assignments and papers appear, so do the sweatpants.

However, there are a few McGill collegiettes out there who consistently come to class appropriately dressed with cute outfits and killer confidence. Read on to meet a few of these savvy collegiettes as Her Campus McGill sits with them to talk fashion!

What to Wear for a Girls' Night Out on Valentine’s Day

2/7/2012

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you have nothing to wear! For those of you who have a hot date for Valentine’s Day, I bet you are looking everywhere to find something sexy and affordable to wear. For those who are planning on spending the night with their girlfriends instead, a girls’ night out on Valentine’s Day is all about red, pink, and white, so make sure to incorporate one of these themes into a cute look. You will look gorgeous, classy, and stand apart from the crowd.

For a fun and flirty look
Let’s keep it cute and simple with this 3/4 length sleeves sheer woven blouse, perfect-fit black skinnies, and fabulous red heels. I fell in love with these heels; with this outfit, the heels will definitely pop because of their amazing eye-catching color, keeping with the Valentine’s Day theme. You will to feel confident and gorgeous without feeling over the top. Add a piece of statement jewelry and you’re good to go!

3 Fashion and Style-Related Resolutions for 2012

1/11/2012

Happy New Year, collegiettes™! To start 2012 off right, I’ve come up with three fashion and style-related resolutions for you to follow this year. Check them out!

1. Organize your wardrobe!
Having a clutter-free closet not only makes getting dressed in the mornings easier and less stressful, but it looks good too.

You should start by getting rid of clothes you have not worn in a year: those that do not fit, outdated trends, everything that you don’t need, and then decide how you are going to organize your closet. For example: store your most-used items in plain sight and the less-used items below and the least-used items up high.

Once you have organized your closet, keep it that way! Fold your clothes neatly and put them back in their place, hang your clothes back up, and put your shoes back in order. This may be the most difficult part but if you take the time everyday to maintain it, your closet should be organized.

2. Discover your signature style
Why don’t you to try to develop your own signature style this year by creating a wardrobe that is uniquely yours? If someone were to look at an outfit you’d wear on a typical day, would they immediately recognize it as an outfit that is “very you?”

To find your signature style start with adjectives to describe your style like “sophisticated, timeless, put-together” or “fun, eclectic” and look into your closet to see if your clothes fit your signature style. If they do, keep them. If they don’t, there is no point in keeping something that is not “you!”

How to Dress for a Day-Long Study Session at the Library

12/10/2011
The semester is almost over. This means that you have endless hours of studying ahead of you. I believe the library provides the trickiest dressing scenario because you do not want to look like you just rolled out of bed, but at the same time you want an outfit that balances comfort, practicality, and style, all at the same time. The library is not a fashion show but you should not show up in the “sweatpants and UGGs” uniform. Here are some tips on how to look cute and comfortable for a study session at the library. There is nothing wrong with wearing leggings to a study session
They are comfortable, body-friendly, and look cool. If you are going to wear leggings though you should remember these three important rules:  1. Wear thick and opaque leggings
2. Layering is crucial: do not wear leggings as pants. Rather think of them as tights to wear under skirts, dresses, and short—NOT t-shirts

Cute Cold Weather Looks

11/15/2011

Now that the weather has changed, and that fall is here, it is time to embrace cold weather fashion! Just because it’s cold and windy outside, it does not, and should not mean that you have to wear your leggings and oversized McGill sweatshirts, plus American Apparel hoodie uniform. I strongly believe that we should look good. You will automatically feel more confident, and plus, you never know you are going to see on campus.

Coco Chanel says it well: "I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little—if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny." [1]

So check out these three easy tips on how to look chic for class during cold weather.
