Meet Inslee5/22/2013 |
This interview could easily have been counted as a Campus Celebrity (or Honorary Campus Celebrity), but we figured it should be news... front page news. We apologize if that line is cheesy, but it seemed to be a perfect way to introduce the subject of this interview, Inslee Haynes. During college she created Inslee by Design, a way for her to express her love of making illustrations, and soon turned it into a notecard business. Inslee used to be a Washington D.C. resident so she knows her way around our nation's capital, but she recently made her move to the Big Apple where she continues to expand her business. So next school year when you need a new calendar or a new place to visit, Inslee most definitely has you covered! Once you look at a few of her creations you'll see why we're obssessed... So this may seem like an obvious question, but what were your reasons for creating Inslee by Design? I created Inslee By Design as a creative outlet and a way to share my art with friends and family, I had no idea it would grow to the place it is in today at the time. I’m so proud of how it has evolved. During college, how did you balance schoolwork and your education while doing something you love? |
The Packing Blues5/6/2013 |
So the time has come and the semester is ending. Studying for finals has taken over your life, and there isn’t much else you can think about. Before you know it you’re leaving, and you have to pack. What could happen is that you have no plan, your mom is coming in two hours, and she expects you to have everything together. Don’t let this happen to you, because those next few hours will be straight out of hell. Instead, make a plan, start early and follow through, so moving out is as painless as possible. 1. Finish your laundry as soon as you can. The laundry rooms may start getting crazy and you don’t want to pack dirty clothes with all your clean clothes. Budget out three hours a few days before you leave and just get it over with! 2. Eliminate what you don’t need. Some common rooms collect whatever you aren’t keeping at the end of the year. It has to be applicable (and in good condition), but it’ll be going to a good cause, so partake if you can. If you aren’t donating, don’t be afraid to throw things out. Obviously don’t waste things, but be ready to let some things go. You don’t want to open up your boxes next year and wonder what half the stuff is. |
I Hope4/16/2013 |
Yesterday was a day that seems eerily similar to others in the past. As Father O'Brien reminded those of us sitting in the crowd, many of us were in the same situation four months ago, after the shootings which occurred at Newtown. As I sat in Dahlgren joined in prayer with many others, and one word kept running through my head… “Why?” Why do these events occur? The truth is our generation is living in a world that is filled with both good and bad, darkness and light. As I talked to my friends today, we discussed how we’ve grown up in a world that has had its fair share of tragedy, and this will continue to happen into the future. Our children will face a much different world than we do, just as we face a different world than our parents did. In the past few years, it has seemed that every week presents a new tragedy for us to deal with as we struggle to understand all that is bad in this world. Although it may seem clichéd or a state of hopelessly hoping, I do believe in the goodness of humanity, and no matter how hard it is to keep on believing, I will keep trying. Days like today put things in perspective. Calling your mom to hear her voice, texting your little brother to say you love him… all of which are things that I, along with many others do, when tragedy occurs, but these are the things that keep me hopelessly hoping. |
JC Sites4/4/2013 |
Name: JC Sites aka Giggles School: COL '15 Hometown: Greenwich, CT How did you feel when you were nominated to be Campus Cutie?: Seeing that I was nominated by my roommate, who sees me with my shirt off a lot, I feel pretty flattered, but slightly uncomfortable. What is your signature look?: I have two… Look One is "Sweaty, but Sexy": Sweats and a track jacket with a white t-shirt underneath, and a little bit of cologne. Look Two is "The Guy You Want to Bring Home To Mom": Basically a white button down with blue chinos. What is your guilty pleasure?: A bottle of wine, maybe a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, with an Anne Hathaway rom-com, and maybe the shedding of a tear or two. Ladies, I’m not afraid to cry. What makes you different than other Georgetown guys?: I don’t want to give Georgetown guys a bad rep, but I’m sensitive to other people’s emotions and willing to talk about anything… Candidly. |
Glimpses of Georgetown4/4/2013 |
Photo courtesy of Lauren Sinclair So we've featured many a thing on the Campus Style Blog, but this week I'm going to do something a bit different. Yes, there are many stylish people out and about in Georgetown, but Georgetown University and the area surrounding it is as classic as it gets. It is easy to forget how beautiful our school and Georgetown itself are, but there has been a time or two where I've been walking down Prospect and it hits me. While trends come and go, Georgetown will never go out of style. I understand how cheesy this sounds, but it's true. For those of you who are here on campus for your first Georgetown spring, you'll see what I'm talking about soon enough, once it actually gets warm out. Until then stay bundled up and keep on dreaming of cherry blossoms and sunshine. [pagebreak] |

Name: Drew Banks aka bigdaddybanks aka the main attraction
How did you feel when you were nominated to be Campus Cutie?: I felt like all of my hard work up to this point of my life had finally paid off. What is your signature look?: A nice button down (top button buttoned of course), Khaki pants, with some shoes you’ve probably never seen before. What is your guilty pleasure?: Nerds Ropes and Chick Flicks What makes you different than other Georgetown guys?: As a wise man named Da’Quan once said “These other dudes are on the Regular Degular.” Me, I’m not on the regular degular. Best date?: A relaxed night in; order some Chinese food, watch movies, share some cookie dough ice cream, with a little bit of cuddling. Something simple. Best class at Georgetown?: Catholic Peacemaking with Father Clement. Great man and a surprisingly interesting class. Best thing about Georgetown girls: Not only are they beautiful, they’re intelligent and love to have a good time. Doesn’t get much better than that. What is your spirit animal?: Peacock... Flashy, yet elegant. Write an acrostic poem about yourself… D: Dependable friend |
The Little Things: A Giveaway3/19/2013 |
Sometimes in life you need those little things to get you through the week. After that fifth homework assignment, second paper and one too many tests, you’re done, and we don’t blame you. So us girls here at Her Campus Georgetown decided to put together a little giveaway for you. There will be rules, but we’ll cover that at the end of the article! After talking about some “little things” that we thought would work we came up with these items: 1. Maybelline Baby Lips: Yes, they’re perfect for chapped lips, but they’re so much more than that. I’m always reaching for mine, and at this point I’ve figured it’s become something of a comfort thing. Not in a weird creepy way, but I love reaching into my bag and being able to just a grab one. 2. Essie Nail Polish in Lilacism: Once you get time to take a break, sometimes the best thing to do is paint your nails. It makes you feel spruced up, and it doesn’t take a lot of time. This is one of our favorite colors for spring, and we hope you guys like it too! 3. Starbucks Gift Card: Not much needs to be said for this, but sometimes we just need our caffeine fix. Once you need it, it’s hard to deny that urge, so just head on over Leavey, ask for Keisha, and order your favorite drink. 4. Hair Ties: The definition of a little thing, we love these hair ties. They don’t crease your hair, and not to mention they’re so incredibly cute. |

Guess Who’s Back, Back Again?2/7/2013 |
Lots has happened since we last left off during finals, and we here at HerCampus Georgetown are prepared to tackle a brand new semester. Since our arrival back on the Hilltop there have been new classes, more work, those first few crazy weekends so we can “let loose” (just in case break wasn’t relaxing enough), winter weather, and the realization that the year has once again flown by. Second semester is a blur, so I recommend getting yourself ready for what’s ahead. |
