Spring Break Style3/7/2012 |
The time has come. There’s only four days left until the Holy Grail of breaks, which means it’s time to start packing or at least thinking about what you’re going to wear. Regardless of your plans ( the beach, skiing or elsewhere) there’s no reason not to look your best and strut your stuff. Lacking inspiration for your wardrobe? Check out these collages and see if you anything tickles your fancy.
From what I've heard, it seems that most of Rhodes College will be spending their week of rest and relaxation at the beach. The great thing about going to beach is you don't really have to worry about packing too much - a few swim suits, some sun screen and a couple cute cover-ups is all you need! Also, don't forget the sunscreen, because looking like a lobster will never be fashionable.
Just because you're spending your spring break in the land of ice and cold doesn't mean your fashion has to suffer! Cold weather fashion is all about the accessories so try out some fun hats, scarves and glasses. Accessories will add to your winter wardrobe and I'm sure everybody will agree that you look like a snow angel! |

How to Find Designer Clothes for Less at Your Favorite Stores9/21/2011 |
The most recent designer craze isn’t a certain color (eggplant, anyone?) or style, it’s collaborations that allow their lines to become available for the fashionista on a budget. Last year Rodarte and Target teamed up, and Lanvin and H&M created sweet love in the form of a clothing line. This year we have even more to look forward to. Here’s a preview of whats to come. 1. Missoni for Target The stripes! The colors! Missoni offers all of their distinct patterns on a much more affordable price range. Try mixing and matching a printed skirt and top – you won’t be disappointed. Pair it with some flats (maybe the Missoni ones as well?) and black tights for a perfectly European look for this fall. Missoni definitely decided to cover all aspects of Target with this partnership - they also offer home décor, children clothing and tons of hair accessories. My favorite piece of the line? Their AMAZING striped bicycle. Better lock this one up, if you don’t I’m going to steal it. Just Kidding. (Not).
2. Alexander Wang for Dockers Wait, what? Yeah, we are talking about the same Dockers that the emo kids wore in middle school (Shhh- I wore them too). Although this line definitely takes a minimalist approach to fashion, it’s far from ‘emo’. Wang is known for the structure and exact details in his clothing and this line does not disappoint. Available at Bloomindales and Dockers.com, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a perfectly structured button down.
3. Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s |
Runway to Rhodes: Day 2 of Rites of Spring4/8/2011 |
The Lineup: Whale Fight, Miner 49ers, Ying Yang Twins and David Banner What to wear: I predict there is going to be a lot of dancing at Saturday night’s concerts. The Ying Yang Twins take me all the way back to that awkward 8th grade dance where, if a guy tried to dance with me, I literally ran away. Fortunately (or unfortunately) nothing holds me back from breaking out in a sweet dance move these days. I heard The Miner 49ers for the first time last weekend; they are the perfect band to dance to in the way your parents would approve. The Twins and David Banner, on the other hand, will be ideal for you to get your club on. Warm weather (YAY) + lots of people busting a move= HOT (temperature wise). So here are some ideas to help you dress adequately while still looking hot (carnal wise).
1. The Lace Top This is the shirt that lets you keep it classy and cool. Lace is breathable, so you don’t have to worry about suffocating out on the dance floor. This shirt is from Madonna’s line, which I am pretty sure is made for tweens, but I consider myself more of a twenty-teen so that’s fine with me. WARNING: Lace can be dangerous because there is a very fine line between boho chic and ‘I found this in my grandma’s closet’ (not so) chic. Wanna get some double takes? Wear a nude tank under a lace top to keep ‘em guessing.
2. The Romper |

The Line Up: Matt & Kim, Anberlin, The Hood Internet What to Wear: The weather gods are finally shining favorably upon us: this weekend (should be) warm and sunny. Although you never really know in Memphis, it’s time to pull out those spring outfits that have been patiently waiting in your closet for their time to shine. Stuck in a clothing rut? Here are some ideas to help you out.
1. Kimchi Blue Lace Dress I have yet to visit the newly opened Urban Outfitters, mostly because I am broke and don’t want to be tortured by the outfits that could have been. A white lace dress is great for all occasions because it can be as dressy or casual, depending on how you accessorize it. Throw on some boots and a jean jacket if (heaven forbid) it gets chilly. With a little luck, all you’ll need are some wedges and feathers in your hair.
2. American Apparel T-Shirt Dress T-shirt dresses are the epitome of cool. This one hugs in all the right places in case you, like me, tend to overeat at basically any place that isn’t the Rat. It’s also offered in 15 different colors, so there will always be one to fit your mood. Belt it for extra flattering definition. |
Runway to Rhodes: 90s Super Swap Costume Ideas3/30/2011 |
Looking back in fashion history, there are some trends that probably should have never existed (Von Dutch hats, anyone?). I may be a little biased as a product of the 90s, but in my opinion this decade produced some of the most interesting fashion styles. I wish I could live in old concert t-shirts, flannel, baby doll dresses and crop tops. The super-swap is this Thursday, with the theme of I Love the 90s. This theme gives you plenty of room to go all out with your costume or keep it easy. Here are some costume ideas to get your creative juices flowing: Jean on Jean with Jean on Jean |
Runway to Rhodes: A (Not So) Shameless Plug3/24/2011 |
I feel a little lame about doing this, but it's for a good cause! Being the fashionista and/or shopping addict that I am, I wanted to create an event that raised money for the Make-A-Wish foundation and gave me an excuse to, well, shop, even as the Chi Omega philanthropy chair. Thus, ‘The Chi-O Card’ was born. The Chi-O Card offers 15 discounts to various restaurants and stores around Memphis. It’s $10 and 100% of the proceeds go to Make-A-Wish. I personally shop at stores that offer discounts on the card, so obviously they must be great. The stores and restaurants on the card include: |
