To celebrate Earth Day at Oklahoma State University clubs such as ECO-OSU and the Environmental Science Club gathered on the Student Union Plaza to celebrate Earth Fest.
Booths at Earth Fest provided information on what is acceptable to recycle on campus, fliers on how to live a vegetarian lifestyle and a campaign to ban the bottle.
The Ban the Bottle campaign was supported by ECO-OSU and the OSU Green Student Initiative. Students were asked to sign a pledge that stated they would help make OSU plastic bottle free. By signing the pledge they committed to reduce waste and promote ecological sustainability. Upon signing the pledge students were given green ECO-OSU Nalgene bottles as a thank you and an alternative bottle for drinking water. A social media campaign titled "Stories from the Bottle" was also implemented as a way for students to share their adventures using their new water bottles.
The Environmental Science Club handled out fliers to promote their club and onion bulbs for students to plant.
Katie Keil, president of the Environmental Science Club said the days events were a success.
"We handed out flyers about our club, envelopes full of sweet onion bulbs for planting, and had people sign a poster board answering how they would celebrate Earth Day this year," Keil said. "I would definitely say it was a success, even if the majority of people cleverly signed the board saying they would plant the onions we gave them. "
Foot traffic was heavy throughout the day and many students signed the Green Student Initiative.
