Sundial Snapshots4/22/2013 |
As a part of MUSF's senior week, all Miami students are welcome to have their picture taken overlooking McCracken Hall and central quad. The photo-op is a great opportunity to have a memorable snapshot with friends. Afterward, students will be given information on how to access the photos taken for personal use. McCracken, even more than Upham Arch, has become "the place" to have your photo taken before you graduation. So seniors should epecially try to make the event! The photographer will be near the Sundial from 1-4 pm this Wednesday. Did we mention it's completely free and done by a professional photographer? Make the time to go! The Perfect Mother's Day Gift4/18/2013 |
The older you get, the more you value the primary female role model in your life. Whether that is your mom, grandma, stepmom, or someone else, the time to honor that woman is quickly approaching. Sometimes it’s tricky to choose something for mom that works in your college student budget, so here are some ideas to make that search easier. All of the options are $50 or less.
1. Send her flowers Surprise her with flowers from a company like proflowers.com. They have tons of bouquets to choose from in every budget, plus you get to select a vase to go with it. This adds a personal touch if your mom really loves purple or wants blue to match the colors in her kitchen. My favorite selection is this bouquet of two dozen brightly colored roses for $32.96.
2. Take her to lunch Give mom a lunch “coupon” and take her to a spot where you can take you time and talk. Even somewhere like Panera bread is special, and you can easily pay for the date with $25 or less. After finishing another school year, she is sure to want to catch up on how finals went, your summer plans, and your fun memories of 2012-2013.
3. Send her to the spa |

The F-WORD (Feminists Working On Real Democracy) is putting on its annual production of The Vagina Monologues! Each monologue is used to talk about a different aspect of being a woman. Some of the topics are sex, love, pain, and pleasure. This show is part of a worldwide event called V-Day, and its goal is to end violence against women and girls across the world. The show will be held February 21, 22 and 23 at 7pm in Leonard Theatre in Peabody Hall. You can buy tickets at the Shriver Box Office for $12 ( they will be $14 at the door). Fun Facts About Miami Mergers2/13/2013 |
Love is in the air, and in Oxford, that means Miami Mergers! We have all heard the stories about finding love and kissing under the arch, but what about some real facts? Her Campus has compiled a list to acknowledge the romantic history of this tradition. 14 percent of Miami alumni are married to another alum. For other colleges, the average percentage of alumni getting married is between 3 and 9 percent. Those odds aren't bad! Each year, Miami mails a Valentine to merger couples. This year’s valentine “captures the story of how Miamians meet, fall in love and seal it with a kiss underneath the Upham Arch through a series of haiku poems featured on four decorative Valentine’s Day coasters—perfect for cold drinks to celebrate the day of love!” Miami University holds the world record for the most couples renewing their wedding vows. Guinness recognized this in 2009 during an Alumni Weekend. 1,087 couples participated, breaking the previous record of 624. There is some really nice merchandise available for Mergers. Maybe one of these would be a great gift for your parents. Mergers have an adorable Pinterest page! Enough said.
