Do-it-Yourself Fun and Flirty Halloween Costumes

10/13/2012

The fall season has officially arrived with all its fun festivities: apple and pumpkin picking, haunted hay rides, baking delicious fall favorites, pumpkin coffee and of course, Halloween! Who wouldn’t be excited?

Now ladies, planning on going out for Halloween can be a bit pricey. With women’s costumes not made from the best materials, yet, costing a fortune at most party stores, you may find yourself settling for just a plain and simple costume that does not give you the “WOW” factor that you were looking for.

However, I have come up with some great do-it-yourself costume ideas that are sure to please your wallet. These fun and flirty costumes are not hard to make by any means, so do not feel overwhelmed by the term, “do-it-yourself.”

3 Tips on How to Plan a Back to School Routine

9/19/2012

Welcome back to school my Kean collegiettes! It’s time to say goodbye to your summer days and get back into the swing of things for the new Fall 2012 semester.

As you may know, getting back into “school mode” is pretty rough after having those few months off from school. You are reaching for your goals and dreams and you are always finding ways to further your education and build your future; but what about taking good care of your body and your health at the same time?

As you start your new classes and get to know your new classmates, you cannot forget about yourself. You have to make sure you are happy and healthy so that you can focus on your academics and earn good grades, and feel good about yourself as well. That’s why planning and sticking to a routine is essential during your long study days ahead.

It’s as easy as one, two and three!

1. Exercise — Start off by planning a good work-out that works for you! Whether it’s for 10 minutes or for 2 hours— running, walking, yoga or crunches in the morning or at night—fitting a work-out in your schedule can really boost your self-esteem and help you feel more energetic as well as looking great.

Well ladies, we are almost done with our hectic and grueling studies, and you know what that means… summer is right around the corner! Beach days, long nights, vacations, BBQ’s and plenty more fun; however, one of the most difficult challenges we must go through is Swimsuit Season!

Finding the right swimsuit is like finding the right pair of jeans. A major CHALLENGE for any body type! But not to worry, it does not have to be.  Whether you want to minimize your hips, give your butt a boost, hide your tummy or create a curvier figure, I have created a list to help every shape and size find the perfect swimsuit.

Best Swimsuits for Pear Shapes:A sizzling one-piece with a V-neck accent is perfect not only for feeling great but looking great too. You’ll stay comfortable and confident while soaking up the sun.

Best Swimsuits for a Small Chest:A bikini top with full coverage, a band below the bust and halter straps will help give a sexy boost to your beachwear.

Best Swimsuits for No Curves:Bikini’s with bold stripes or ruffles add the right amount of volume without looking over done.

Best Swimsuits for Petite Shapes:Bikinis with a cinched bottom definitely work best because they are adjustable and ideal for creating the perfect snug fit for your body.

Best Swimsuits for Hourglass Shapes:A bikini with a bold print will certainly play up those gorgeous curves without overpowering your frame.

Boost your Energy Level without Giving in to Unhealthy Options!

2/7/2012

Welcome Back Ladies! Now that we are back in the swing of things from winter break it is time to break free from all those holiday goodies we have all been chowing down on and start living up to our New Year’s Resolutions!

Yes, our hectic schedules with school, work and life seem to take over everything and leave us feeling absolutely drained for any type of exercise or preparing a new healthy recipe by the end of the day.

Although we might sometimes struggle to keep energetic throughout our long days, there is hope that doesn’t involve Red Bull or excessive coffee runs. What about a natural energy boost? No crazy, wild fitness routine or confusing lite recipe; just following a few simple, natural and healthy steps throughout the day will help boost up your body in no time.

Skipping or Walking:just ten minutes of walking or skipping can do the trick! (how about during a break between classes?) Stre-e-e-e-tch:gentle stretching during the day revitalizes the whole body. Natural Herbs:before you head out to class, take a few. Herbal adrenal-support supplements can prevent crashes and keep you peppy! Look for sarsaparilla (Smilax), licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and ginseng (Panax ginseng). Skip out on crash-food cravings:instead of hitting up the vending machines during classes, have a well-balanced lunch that fills you up the ‘lite’ way. Good examples of balanced combinations include a large Greek salad with olives, assorted vegetables and cooked chicken breast, or a shrimp and Chinese vegetable stir-fry. Yum!

Hot Yoga

10/30/2011

Leading a healthy and active lifestyle is pretty difficult in today’s society, especially for those of us with a busy college schedule. We either do not have the time to exercise, eat right or even just take the stairs instead of the elevator. People need to start becoming proactive! There’s a new fitness trend that could be an interesting solution to this problem, hot yoga!

Yoga has been very popular throughout the years; incorporating meditation with breathing exercises along with various stretching positions. Yoga is meant to help people relax and de-stress while providing them with a full body work out.

Becoming all the rage, there is a different practice to yoga, hot yoga; where you sweat so much that it actually feels like you are slimming down by the minute. The highly intense positions are performed in hot and humid temperatures.  Depending on the force of the workout you can burn between 500 to 1250 calories per session.

If you are interested in joining this new trendy workout, there is a studio called Hot Yoga Revolution that offers a variety of classes, from beginner stages to boot camp level.  The studio is located in Garwood, NJ, not far from Kean University.
