Fruit Frenzy!4/3/2012 |
Randomly our frien-emy is back and beaming rays like never before. Not that I’m complaining that our, what seemed to be, a never-ending winter is finally over but it’s making grocery shopping quite difficult. Produce is expensive which means I’d rather pay for a bowl of sweet frozen sugar with extra sugary toppings than buy individual whole fruits. But guess what? Even if you are opening the door to Frozen Yogurt as if there’s that so called “zombie apocalypse” coming after you, you can still walk away feeling good about your choice to hide out in a safe haven of refreshing sweets. Just follow my lead! |
Power It Up!3/6/2012 |
Our instinct to eat something filling and sort of tasty on the go is often a bar that contains what we feel is necessary to function throughout the day…or at least for a few hours. Here’s the deal, just like everything else you have to look at the list of ingredients. There are several different types of bars to grab. Each is made by different brands. Each bar has a specific purpose such as meal replacement, post work out protein, energy or extra daily nutrients. It’s difficult to eat breakfast or to even bring snacks to school. There are rules for different teachers, classrooms, and eating in front of people is totally awkward. Which obviously become obstacles for our nutrition. Thus, why I searched the most healthy protein bars, most flavorful protein bars, and I even found a website that allows you to customize your own bar. Granted you’re probably thinking, this will break my bank account, but these high power protein filled bars are sold individually at your local Safeway, GNC store or just make it easy all together and order them from your laptop while watching the Bachelor! |
When You Say the Rec, I Say Cupcakes!2/20/2012 |
So this week I went on a quest to find the best healthy substitutes for baking. I’m a cupcake fanatic but I’ll admit, when it comes to my recipes it’s right down to the original 1800’s multiple cups of sugar, milk, butter, and flour. Although these basic ingredients are what make everyone’s mouth water, they are also what make everyone pencil in an hour at the Rec multiple times a week. Therefore, I have done the research for those of you who deserve a scrumptious sweet that won’t make you sweat. Put on those aprons, take out those mixing bowls, and turn on some Katy Perry because these replacements are just what you need! |
Counting and Texting…It’s Possible!2/20/2012 |
Well I’ve done it again. I have found a way for all of us to go carb-counting crazy! Now, I’m assuming your phone is as attached to your hand as mine. So I have discovered an iPhone application that not only helps you track the weight you gain and loose, but calculates how many carbohydrates you should intake per day. I overheard my friend Mitchell calculating his carbs while staring at his phone and there it was, the carbohydrate application from God. I’ll admit there weren’t any beams of sunrays rising from him phone, but it was definitely an immediate, “Omg, I have to share this with my HerCampus gals,” moment. |
