Graduation Bucket List

4/30/2012

Take a minute and reflect back on your first year on campus.  While some were living up new found freedom, others were dreaming about what graduation would be like.  It’s hard to believe four years have flown by, but instead of being sad undergrad is over, take this last week to finish off your college bucket list.

Graduation Pictures
After you’ve picked up your cap and gown, the next step is graduation pictures.  There are tons of great spots around campus including the Swamp, the Albert and Alberta statues on University and the Bull Gator outside the stadium.  Get your best friends together or take solo pictures, either way you want to document all our hard work at UF!

Decorate Your Graduation Cap
A graduation tradition here at UF is decorating your cap. Some past favorites have included blinging the cap out with jewels or adding some orange and blue flair.  No matter what you choose, it is a create way to showcase your personality and be spotted among the sea of graduates.

Celebrate At Your Favorite Nightlife Spot
Head out for a night on the town at your favorite nightlife spot. Whether you’re a midtown or downtown girl, there are plenty of places to celebrate in style.  Going out in a college town is much different than an outing in a bigger city, so while you’re still an undergrad go to your favorite stomping grounds for a few more great nights.

Attend a UF Sporting Event
During the last four years, UF has earned championships in sports including football, basketball and gymnastics. What better way to end your undergrad than by supporting your school at a sporting event?  Spring sports like baseball are in full swing and love seeing orange and blue in the stands!

Healthy Steps to Becoming a Bronzed Beauty

4/26/2012

As Floridians, we are lucky to have sunshine year round, and with all the vitamin D we soak up, it’s important to protect our skin.  Whether you’re fair skinned and can’t handle the power rays, or are lucky and tan easily, there are great alternatives to keeping a healthy glow.  Below are safe products to help all skin types maintain a bronzed beauty status.

Tanning Outdoors

There is nothing more relaxing then laying by the pool and basking in the sun.  However, what many don’t realize is how powerful (and damaging) the sun is on our skin.  The rumor of sunscreen preventing a Bahamas tan is false, and can save you from future skin issues like wrinkling, sunspots and skin cancer.  If you take anything away from this article it should be this:  No matter your skin tone, it is important to block the harmful rays with sunscreen while enjoying your tanning session.
Below are two of our favorite sunscreens that are waterproof, oil-free and non-comeodogenic (meaning it won’t clog your pores!)

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock SPF 30 AVEENO Natural Protection Sunblock Lotion with SPF 30

Gainesville Fashion Week Intern Spotlight

4/16/2012

Gainesville Fashion Week’s fifth season recently wrapped up as they hosted some of the industry’s hottest designers, artists and musicians.  Rent the Runway, Project Runway’s Laura Kathleen and Macy’s were among those who participated in the events which were held April 11 to April 15.

The Gainesville Fashion Week staff worked countless hours preparing for the event, and Her Campus was able to speak with one of the interns who helped make Gainesville Fashion Week a success!

Lili Aquino, a fourth year public relations student, worked with the talent committee.  On the talent committee, she dealt with the designers, hair salons and makeup artists.  Their job was to book and communicate with the talent, making sure they were up-to-date.

Excel became Aquino’s best friend during her internship, as the interns were in charge of tasks including keeping track each models hair and beauty looks and the order of each runway show.  Other jobs included coordinating hair and makeup appointments for each model and running both rehearsals and fittings.  During the actual shows, Aquino was backstage assisting model lineup where she interacted with 80 models throughout the 14 shows.

Easy Ways to Maintain Your Spring Break Body

3/12/2012
Just because spring break is over doesn’t mean your bikini body has to go too.  Leading up to spring break, the gyms are flooded with students preparing for their week in the sun.  However, once school starts up again, most go back to their usual on-again-off-again workout routines and diets. That’s why we’ve compiled simple ways to stay fit after spring break without having to sacrifice your time or taste buds.

Watch Your Diet

Portions
Portion is key for a healthy diet.  Dieticians say your plate should be viewed in fractions.  Half of your plate should be filled with veggies.  Whether you choose green, crunchy or leafy, the more vegetables the better! The other side of your plate should be split into proteins and grains.  The great part of portions is you still get a full plate of food, but fill up in a less caloric way.

Healthy Snacks
Filling up on healthy snacks throughout the day helps keep you from overeating at your three major meals.  Almonds, Greek yogurt and hummus are all great options to keep your stomach from growling in between meals.

Water
While soda, tea and coffee are staples in most girls’ diets, water often gets the boot.  As hard as it is too drink the recommended dosage of H20 per day, it makes a world of a difference in the way your body feels.

Home Workouts

Whether you’re slammed with upcoming tests or just not in the mood to trek all the way to the gym, there are quick and easy workouts you can do in the comfort of your own home.  You don’t need weights or any fancy equipment, just a simple2 open space!
