Warmer weather is approaching and it may be time to start trading out those grey hoodies and sweatshirts for more feminine colored dresses and skirts.

Pantone releases a fashion report for the Spring and Fall colors each year.  This year stores will be selling lighter colors such as lilac, light pink and light teal among others.  The official colors for the season, which can be found on the Pantone website, are Tangerine Tango, Solar Power, Bellflower, Sodalite Blue, Cabaret, Margarita, Sweet Lilac, Cockatoo, Driftwood and Starfish.

When combining a great mix of light hues and show-stopping solids, these spring colors can spruce up any wardrobe.

Open Mic Night Showcases MSU Student's Talents

3/20/2012

Tired of spending Thursday nights stuck studying in a stuffy dorm room?  Try walking to the MSU Union for Open Mic Night.

The University Activities Board has been putting on Open Mic Night for artists around campus and in the community to show off their talents.  Open Mic Night is every other Thursday night from 8-11 p.m.

Rikki Jarvis, a member of the UAB, helped run the event last Thursday.  Jarvis said Open Mic Night is a way for new talent to get practice.

While a handful of performers are return artists, Jarvis said, many are new first timers.

On Thursday the audience consisted of a handful of students including myself; which is unusual for this event.  Audience members Amanda Taylor and Jaclyn Park said that during the winter season the event typically faces a lull, with a small crowd due to the winter weather.  However, as the night continued, more people began to show up.

HCMSU Confessions: How I Survived Lil' Sibs Weekend at MSU

3/1/2012

Lil’ Sibs Weekend, run by the University Activities Board, has been a tradition at Michigan State for the past nine years.  This is the first year I have attended the event and was surprised by the turn out.

Arriving just a few minutes before registration began, the line for matching T-shirts and meal passes was already creeping down the front stairs of the MSU Union.

Kaitlyn West, UAB Director of Spirit and Traditions, said the shirts and meal passes ran out earlier than they would have like this year, so as a minor change to next years registration, meal passes and T-shirts will be made available for purchase during online registration with a credit card to ensure all attendees will receive those items.

After registration, I tried to attend every event, making sure my sibs had a great weekend.

What to Get Your V-Day Sweetie From 1 Month To a Year!

2/9/2012

A common problem on Valentine’s Day is what to get your significant other, and depending on how long you have been dating someone, gift giving could end in disaster.  Was your gift too over the top or did you forget to give anything at all?  Here are some gift-giving ideas that vary depending on the length of time you have been dating, which will hopefully prevent that Valentine’s Day awkwardness we all fear and hope won’t happen.

1 Month:

At one month you do not want your guy running for the hills!  No matter how sensitive he may seem, no need to scare him off with a couples massage or the 52 reasons you love him... that’s more than one reason for every day you have been dating!  Keep it simple.  Fill a take out box with some valentines candy from Target and he will appreciate the gesture and not feel upstaged if all he got you was a box of chocolates or a rose.
