Joey Fusco

Name: Joey Fusco
Major: Economics
Grade: Junior
Hometown: Sonoma, California
Relationship Status: Single

You just transferred here. How do you like Davis so far?
I love it. I love the small town aspect and the small town feel. There seems to be a strong sense of community here that’s conducive to making good, long lasting friendships. At my last school, a junior college in Sonoma, the social scene was pretty dead and coming here, the scene has met all of my expectations.

What is it like working at the Ramble?
Working there is probably one of the best jobs I’ve had.  As a transfer student, it really helped me get into the Davis community. Because I was thrown right in the middle of a lot of events that I would not have known about otherwise. I get to go to the events and be a part of them. This job really enables me to meet lots of cool people.

What are your plans after college?
I am currently looking into graduate school for Economics. I’ve spent so much of my time lately working and focusing on getting to Davis, that now that I am here, the focus has really shifted to future grad schools, but I just want to enjoy being here for now. School is definitely in my future whether it be here or somewhere out of state.  As far as after grad school, that is still undecided.

For The Love of Running

11/1/2011
Edited by: Amy Coyle

It is a new school year and with that comes new classes, new roommates, and a new routine to adjust to. One routine I am always determined to set first is my workout routine. I am the type of person where if I do not work out 6 days a week, I feel sluggish and everything is off. I have tried doing Group Exercise classes at the ARC and that worked out great at first, but with harder classes, a job and the time demand of my clubs and internships, accommodating my schedule around the GX classes doesn’t always work. I had to find a work out that was new and worked for me. I decided this year to become serious about running.

I have always been an active person, playing sports throughout my childhood, but even though I was an avid soccer player, I hated running. So if four years ago you told me I would be running 10-18 miles a week, I would laugh in your face. But to all of you other disbelievers, Davis is honestly the perfect place to pick up running because, hello!, it’s so flat. If you have ever been curious about running, but are too anxious to start, don’t be! You might think, Oh, but I won’t be good at it. That is the beauty of running- it is an individual sport so the only person you answer to is yourself! What I love about running is that it is a perfect escape. Prior to jogging on a regular basis, I never understood how people could find running calming until now. When I run, especially on my long weekend runs, I have 45-90 minutes to myself. No distractions. I don’t think about midterms, people, drama, work, chores, nothing. During my runs, I am taking the time to take care of myself.

One Item, Four Ways

Times are tough, money is tight, and buying new clothes can’t always be at the top of a collegiette™’s to-do list. That is why it is crucial to buy versatile pieces that you can create multiple outfits with. With fall weather upon us, it is time to bring out our beloved sweaters, coats, and boots. This mustard yellow sweater from Urban Outfitters can go with so many outfits and looks so comfy- as in I want to curl up on the couch and read a good book comfy. If yellow is not your color, they offer it in black, white, purple, olive, and orange. Mustard is going to be a hugely popular color this Fall 2011, and it is such a great color to coordinate with. As you can see, mustard can be paired with any other of the popular jewel tones. Being that it is a strong, solid color, it can also be paired with multiple pieces of any print. Don’t be afraid to push the limits as to what you can wear with this sweater because you really cannot go wrong!

UC Davis and the Seven Eggheads

5/17/2011
Simply put, I love Davis. There are so many unique characteristics about this town and campus that make me so happy. If you think of one thing that makes this campus unique, what is it? The thing that comes to mind for me are the UC Davis Egghead sculptures. I am sure you have all seen at least one of these distinct pieces of art in your time. Sure they are fun to look at, but do you know any more about them? There are a total of seven eggheads on campus, all commissioned by Robert Arneson who taught at Davis from 1962 until 1991. Arneson intended for the eggheads to be aesthetically pleasing, as well as a fun and interactive part of  campus. I think students hold up that end with all the silly pictures they take next to the unique sculptures.

Stargazer
This egghead is located behind North hall, near the old entrance to campus. It is lying facing up, gazing at the stars- hence its name.
