Independence and the ability to take a joke/make a joke. And not overly clingy.

The Best Swimsuit For Your Body

2/25/2012

Spring break is just around the corner. Now that you’ve been dieting and exercising, it’s time for that exciting moment to shop for your bikini- But with so many styles, how can you choose?!
Don’t fear, fellow USFers. Her Campus is here to offer some guidance on which suit suits your body best. You don’t have to be a Sports Illustrated model to look stunning at the beach!

Small Bust:
Small chests unite! Go for string triangular tops or bandeau tops, especially if they have a tie in the center. With the strings, you can adjust the suit to give you an extra boost. Look for busy patterns or ruffles- something that embellishes. Be careful not to have too much going on. Horizontal stripes make your breasts look fuller. If that’s still not enough oomph, check out tops with extra padding. Flaunt what you have and fake what you don’t!
Avoid too much fabric and poor fits.

Small Bottom:
You’re one of the few who can wear string bikini bottoms with little to worry about. You can also go wild with embellishments. I.e. Ruffles, rings, bows.
Avoid blah solid-colors.

Full Bust:
There’s a lot more to support here. You will need a halter top with an underwire or  wide band around the midriff and wider straps.  This will give you gals enough support and an opportunity to show off your sexy cleavage.
Avoid strapless tops or tops with thin straps. They offer minimal coverage and support.

Hometown: Orange Park Acres (Orange County), California
Major: Business Marketing
Class year: Junior
Age: 20

Never underestimate Michelle Dao. At age 20, she’s already had three successful internships and helps run a boutique business. She works thirty hours a week, clocks in twenty hours a week for her current internship, and alternates between New York City and Los Angeles on most weekends attending designer showrooms and fashion events. From styling Chloe King, interviewing Mr. Big from Sex and the City, and designing her own line, Michelle is a businesswoman determined to have her name known in the fashion world.

How did the idea of A Bubbles Boutique come about?
My boss from Lux Delux, Erika Petersen approached me with the idea to get back into fashion world, combining the idea of the ultimate shopping experience with fashion and bubbles! We wanted to create a one of kind shopping experience. At A Bubbles Boutique, you can talk to specialized vendors and create business connections. I’m also kind of like your personal stylist for the evening. If you have an event coming up, I’m there for you.

How do you prepare for each event?
The whole purpose of Bubbles is to recreate the feeling of shopping in your girlfriend’s closet. We go through the closets from our very own Bubbles Beauties, while mixing it with current fashion finds!

Fair Trade Shopping Guide

11/30/2011

Here at Her Campus, we know a lot of you San Franciscans are conscious shoppers.

“Fair Trade” means farmers and workers are getting their end of the deal. A fair trade certified product ensures that no slave labor was involved. Everything is justly compensated. It also means that the money from the sale is going back to the community. Here’s list of the city’s best fair trade-friendly options!

LUSH

LUSH products are vegan, vegetarian, homemade, and Fair Trade. There are plenty of goodies at LUSH, from bath bombs to fresh face masks. You can visit the store to pick up one of the many preciously wrapped gift boxes, which come with an assortment of LUSH goods.

The Charity Pot body lotion is a great stocking stuffer. 100% of the proceeds go to grassroots charities all around the world. It’s made possible because all the materials were donated and volunteers worked to make the lotion. The fair trade cocoa butter provides a rich and creamy chocolate scent and the almond oil makes your skin really soft.

$5 for 1.7 oz

LUSH is located on Powell St, Downtown or Union St, Marina District.

Krochet Kids International

These hats are made by Northern Ugandans. Krochet Kids intl, a non-profit organization, teaches people in developing countries how to crochet as a means to break the poverty cycle. The hope is that they will no longer be dependant on the government and aid organizations. The workers want to be able to provide for their own families. You can help sustain their dream by purchasing one of their hats!

Fall 2011 TV Shows

11/18/2011
Thanksgiving break is coming up. For those of you lucky enough to have downtime- Watch some TV! What I have been hearing all semester is “I don’t have time to watch TV” or “I don’t even know what to watch anymore.” To help you out, I wrote about my three favorite new shows this season.  AWKWARD.  Surprisingly, MTV has a TV show that is not reality.  “Awkward.” is a scripted comedy about high school sophomore Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards). It’s MTV’s own high school series. For years, the leaders in teenage shows have been ABC’s “Secret Life of the American Teenager” and the CW’s Gossip Girl.  Unlike those other shows, “Awkward.”’s  writer, Lauren Iungerich, has managed to write about high school in an entirely relatable way. When watching, I was eager to know what would happen next and the show always surprised me. It was never predictable and it was much funnier than all those other teen-angst shows. I describe the humor as a mixture of “Mean Girls”, “Easy A”, and “Juno.” “Awkward.” is about the same things as all teen shows: humiliations, social climbing, lust, and friendships.

How long have you been dancing?
I have been dancing for 16 years. I took it seriously at the age of 12. The first dance class I remember was a hip hop dance class. I took it when I was 12. I fell in love. I was lucky that my instructor was a dancer for Justin Timberlake.
How did you find out about the Gold Rush girl auditions?
Dancing for a NFL or NBA team was something on my bucket list of things to do before I am 25 years old. And gold rush is an organization that is held for the highest prestige the expectations for us are so high. I just kept up to date about auditions.
What does it feel like to be a Gold Rush girl?
I found out April 1st. Its been six months. It feels great. It’s something I will never forget. It’s something I will be able to tell my kids. It’s everything. It especially feels good since it’s on my bucket list of things to do before I am 25. It makes me realize that I can do anything I set my mind to.
