Advice From Mom

5/10/2012

Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday, May 13th and so to honor our mothers we have decided to share with you some of the best advice we’ve gotten from them. Remember your mother brought you into this world, so show her some love <3

Simmone:
Best advice: be nice. It’s a great quality to have.

Alexa:
"Don't have sex before marriage. Well, don't have sex until you're engaged. Okay, no, just wait to have sex until you're in love. Well, let's be real: just be safe." Even though the message changed over the years, the sentiment was the same; that I should love myself, and be respectful to myself--for that's the only way to be a part of a meaningful relationship.

Rebecca:
Whenever I'm stressed out, my mom always reminds me that things will turn out fine because they always do - essentially, look to the future and don't dwell on the now.

Brionna:
The best advice from my grandmother: "In the dictionary, and in life, 'books' comes before 'boys', and 'live' comes before 'love'.

Other advice: If you can do it any time, you won't do it at any time!

Ann:
Best advice from my mom: You have to love yourself, because at the end of the day, the only person who will always take care of you is no one but yourself.

Dear Class of 2016 Jumbos

5/9/2012

As the year ends people often times start to reflect on the past and we here at HC Tufts started to think about our freshman year. As one class leaves and another one comes we want to share with the Class of 2016 some advice and some tidbits we wish we knew before getting to the hill.

Things I Wish I Knew About Tufts Before Getting Here:
Simmone: everyone here is quirky and weird Just embrace your oddities! Being normal is weird.

Alexa: That everything will change. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I expected that I would continue on a linear path throughout college, developing those interests, which I had discovered in high school. And though I did, to an extent, continue my previous path I ended up somewhere completely different and unexpected. And it's been the best adventure figuring it all out.

Rebecca: I wish I knew more about the level of difficulty. I love Tufts, I knew it'd be hard, but I didn't realize that it would require a lot more studying and work than I was used to from high school.

Brionna: Before Tufts: I wish I'd gone "off the beaten path", especially when applying/ touring/ researching the school, to understand its nuances. I'm happy I didn't "find" my major until my sophomore year; it let me explore so much (for better or for worse...ha-ha!)

Ann: One thing I wish I knew about Tufts before I got here: Economics department here isn't as strong as I had expected.

What's your favorite type of music?
I like all types of music but pop music is really my favorite. I like songs that are catchy and have a good melody to them.

Are you an optimist or pessimist?
I'm more of an optimist. Even though I don't always see the bright side of situations, I still generally believe that things work out for the best in the end.

If you could be any animal, which would you be and why?
I would be a dog. Dogs get to live a care free and relaxed life. I think people can learn a lot from dogs.

You're a sandwich.  What toppings do you have?
I'm pretty cheesy so I'd say cheese would be one of them. I wouldn't have too many more toppings, I'm a man of simple tastes.

Favorite position?  Take that however you want
On top. Take that however you want.

What do you usually look for in a significant other?
Someone who is cute and also really funny. Being funny is a really important trait to me.

Are you involved in any clubs or organizations on campus?
I'm an Arts editor for the Tufts Daily and I'm an RA for Bush and Hodgdon halls.

A place you really want to visit:
I really want to live in France one day

What's your favorite part of Tufts?
The people- I feel like the students here are extremely smart, dedicated and a lot of fun. The best memories I have of Tufts are usually because of the people I was with.

Meet the HC Tufts Staff

9/20/2011

It's time to meet our amazing Her Campus Tufts staff!  These dedicated ladies and gents deserve a round of applause for all their hard work and dedication; we are really lucky to have them.  Give them a shout-out if you see them around!

                                                                                    Stephanie Haven

I’m a freshman most likely majoring in Sociology with a minor in Communication and Media Studies. I enjoy making terrible puns about my Tufts of hair and Jumbo supply of stockpiled food.  I’m also a coffee addict with an entirely nerdy passion for journalism a la Rory Gilmore.

                                                                                     William Vaughan

I’m a senior majoring in Engineering Psychology with a minor in Entrepreneurial Leadership. I love things that are well designed and in my spare time I enjoy taking photographs, playing saxophone, and writing the occasional piece of verse. It's not all sunshine coming from my handsome smile, however, as I’ve previously been described as a "wanker" by an angry surprisingly non-British woman and one day I hope to reach the top by being referred to as "one nasty piece of work."  Follow me on twitter @willvaughan.
