Peace, Love & the Little Things

3/3/2013

After living at DePauw the past three years, I have come to realize that it’s the little things that get me through. From the homework to homesickness, small, insignificant things have made the biggest difference in my overall mood. I love DePauw but sometimes I need a pick me up and I have gathered up my list of little things that make all the difference.

Peace, Love & Fitness

2/18/2013

So, Shape and Cosmo magazines have been advertising the newest trends in fitness and how to get that perfect body for as long as they have been around. Personally, I always flip past the fitness sections in favor of my own boring cycling workout, but why exactly? We are young and in college with plenty of free time so why not try out some of these new workouts? Some friends and I have tried some of the latest fitness crazes and these are the best that we’ve found!

Tabata/HIIT

I am new to Tabata, and I have to say I LOVE IT! Tabata is a form of HIIT, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Basically, it is a high intensity run, exercise, callisthenic, or whatever for a period of time, usually twenty seconds, followed by a rest period. It is so much easier to work your hardest when you know a rest is headed your way! I am a huge fan of HIIT and recommend it to anyone trying to get back into bikini shape for spring break!

This website offers some simple four-minute Tabata workouts: http://tabataexercise.com/category/tabata-exercises/

Zumba

2/17/2013

I love to dance as much as the next girl, but I have never danced like this! Zumba is a high-energy fitness class that uses Latin flavor to tone and sculpt. It is offered throughout the week at DePauw and you’ll have so much fun moving and grooving to Shakira hits that you won’t even realize you are working out!

What: Zumba!

When and Where: Monday and Wednesday at 4:30, Tuesday and Thursday at 11:40, Lilly Dance Room

Why You Should Be There: Dancing and burning cals, it’s the perfect combination!

Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series: Scott Rasmussen

2/17/2013

The 175th Anniversary of DePauw is a huge milestone and is being celebrated by the numerous speakers taking part in the Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series. The next alum on the roster is Scott Rasmussen. He is the founder of Rasmussen Reports, a media company that published public opinion polling information.

Why You Should Be There: How often do you get to see such cool speakers? And, speakers that walked the same halls as you? Rarely! Go support our alumni and learn about what life after DePauw can be like!

Relay for Life presents Karaoke for a Cure

11/14/2012

Raise money for Relay for Life by belting out some tunes at the Duck.  This is a great opportunity to get involved and help an amazing cause.  So grab a drink and the mic!

Why you should be there: You know you love to sing while you are out with your friends- put those vocal cords to good use and raise some money for cancer research!
