Finals Prep: 5 Ways To Stay Focused5/3/2013 |
To quad or not to quad? That is the question of the semester. With the sun strongly shining down on this campus, it is sickening to even think about taking final exams. Spring finals are debatably much harder to study for than fall finals because of the inviting warm weather and the varied activities taking place on the quad (life-size soccer ball on the quad a couple of weeks ago, anyone?) Even though we would all prefer to run down to the National Mall and lay on the grass surrounding the Washington Monument, we have to stay focused and buckle down for the remaining weeks. How do you stay focused, you may ask? It’s simple! Follow these tips, and you will be golden. 1) Separate yourself: I know. Sitting alone in the library or finding a quiet place to yourself may feel daunting and unnecessary BUT it is key to succeeding in your finals. You have to isolate yourself for bits of time to decompress and organize yourself. Take an hour a two a day to yourself, and you will definitely feel a difference in your studying and organization. |

Caroline Brazill '154/1/2013 |
Okay so, you guys know Wonder woman, right? She’s really cool and as awesome super powers? Well, our campus celebrity this week is actually ten times better than Wonder Woman. With a full course load and a million stellar extracurricular activities, Caroline Brazill can pretty much take on anything. Her Campus was lucky enough to track her down and to have her answer some questions for us. Caroline is majoring in international relations with a concentration in peace and conflict resolution in Africa. That sounds pretty cool, right? But she's also minoring in public anthropology. Below are some questions and answers that definitely help in not only encapsulating how incredibly busy she is, but also how awesome she is. Ladies and gentlemen, please meet the one and only, Caroline Brazill. What extracurriculars are you involved in on campus? I’ve been competing on the mock trial team since my freshman year, which I absolutely love. That’s my main time commitment outside of classes; the intricacies of the case get to be really demanding! The team has had great success this year, and we’ve travelled to North Carolina, New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania for tournaments. I work as a barista at the dav making early morning lattes, and I am on the executive board of Delta Phi Epsilon this semester. What is the most rewarding thing that you have done affiliated with a campus organization? |
5 Preppy Outfits Perfect for Easter Sunday3/27/2013 |
Easter Sunday is a day to gather with family, go on an Easter egg hunt, and dress up in a fun outfit! At times, finding the perfect outfit for the occasion can be quite difficult because there are so many options. Easter is about the bright and neutral colors, making it important to focus on those special dresses that are especially suited for spring. Below are my top five favorite outfit combinations for the occasion. If only I could wear all of them! 1. This Arabelle dress from J.Crew is to die for. The blue floral print is well-suited for spring, and the fabric looks perfect for spending Easter Sunday outside. Pairing the dress with this neon peach snakeskin belt and these off-white Jack Rogers sandals will really help in illuminating the detail in this beautiful dress.

Book Review: Next Stop by Glen Finland3/21/2013 |
Gen-ed classes can sometimes be a bit, overwhelming; however, the class Writers in Print and in Person is quite different. In this class, you are assigned a book to read, and after a couple of classes, the author actually visits! Recently, my class and myself had the opportunity to meet Glen Finland, the author of Next Stop. Required reading can be extremely laborious and boring, but Finland’s memoir proved to be different than this usual stereotype. |
5 Things to Do With Your Long Distance Boyfriend for Valentine's Day2/12/2013 |
Back in the fall, I wrote about being in a long distance relationship. Hopefully, the article was useful; however, now more than ever, it is important to pay attention to your significant other. Valentines Day is a major hallmark in a relationship – it is a day of reflection of why you truly love your partner. Whether it has been a week or a year, it is important to take this day to express to them how you really feel. Having been through one long distance Valentines Day already, I felt that I could share a few ideas to help spice this day up a bit.
1) Plan a Skype dinner date Like I said in the fall, Skype is a key application in keeping the flame alive in your relationship. With Skype, you are able to see your partner and can sit for hours talking and laughing together. On Valentines Day, you can order from the same type of take-out restaurant, or maybe even cook the same dish. This will help you to bond over the food, and it could never hurt to set up a candle on each end to help with the romance part!
2) Send him/her a care package |
Trend Alert: Stripes2/5/2013 |
Stripes are a trend that currently appears to be sweeping storefronts and window displays. Only a couple of months ago, it seemed that polka dots were taking over chambray shirts and pants. Trends are changing so quickly! Stripes are tricky because they can, at times, remind people of a referee shirt or a tacky shirt from the 60s. Nevertheless, the stripes trend is back, and it is definitely better then ever. Below are some select picks of the greatest striped pieces on the Internet. 1. Urban Outfitters Striped Pants The first thing that comes to mind when seeing these pants are: LOUD. The black and white stripes elongate the leg, especially with them being high-waisted. There are many tops and accessories that can be worn with these pants. At first sight, it may appear difficult to create a successful outfit with such a bold pair of pants; however, there are actually so many things that you can do. You can pair it with a solid sweater, tank top or classic t-shirt. You can even mix prints! Are you bold enough to pair a floral shirt with these bad boys?
