In just a few short weeks all of us collegiettes will breathe a deep sigh of relief at the end of the semester and start of summer. But before that can happen we must all get through perhaps the most unpleasant week of the year: finals week. Even the craziest of party girls must sacrifice some fun for studying. It is during this week that most girls, let’s be honest, may skip a shower or two, wear the same outfit three days in a row and munch on one too many snacks; it’s not the most attractive time of year. But finals week also happens to be the last week before summer and therefore the last chance to snag the boy you’ve been eyeing all year. What’s a girl to do? To get the answers, we turn to our campus cutie.

We’ve arrived at the worst week here at the University of Michigan: the week after Spring Break. Whether you basked in the sun in Punta Cana or laid on the couch all week at home, coming back to school is always difficult. But the silver lining of this tragic week for some collegiettes is being reunited with your guy.  On the other hand, a lot of girls couldn’t bear to be separated from their guys. Spring Break is a grey area in college life; it’s universally known as a week of total insanity, a week that can break or make couples. For some perspective on this beloved week, we turn to our Campus Cutie.

Should couple always go on Spring Break together? What are the pros/cons?

No, not always. Pros of going on spring break together are having the chance for a change of pace from your weekly routine, which is a good thing, and also the chance to create some really fun memories. The big con of going on spring break together is getting an overdose of that person and/or fights, which of course can be fueled by the excess of drinking, partying, etc. Another issue would be each others’ friends: which set of friends do you go on the trip with, the girl's or the guy's, and who gets stuck being the one who looks like they can't be apart from their significant other for more than 5 minutes.

What ways do you reassure your girl when you two are apart?

It’s the day some people look forward to every year, but also the day some people dread weeks before. Some consider it a holiday and for some it’s just a reminder of how much guys suck. One thing’s for certain: Valentine’s Day is almost as complicated as the relationships it’s supposed to celebrate. It can be even more complicated for us collegiettes since we have to manage classes, work, and being fabulous in addition to navigating the romantic seas.  A lot of articles come out around this time trying to give insight to confused and lonely ladies, but for such topics we always like to hear from our Campus Cutie.

How do you feel about Valentine's Day?

I think people make too big of a deal of it, especially when they aren’t even dating anyone. It doesn’t even cross my mind when I’m single. That being said, if you are in a relationship it’s a good excuse to take a break from school and work just to have fun with your girl.

What's the best way to celebrate Valentine's Day?

The best way to celebrate is doing something that the two of you like to do.  So don’t worry about doing the typical thing, you should just do what you enjoy whether it be going out to a movie or a sports event.

In your opinion should the guy plan Valentine’s Day completely or should the girl plan on contributing as well?

I think most of the responsibility falls on the guy but it’s nice if the girl wants to plan a small surprise as well.

The new semester has arrived, thank goodness. Over the break the guy you thought was your prince charming was tagged in some incriminating photos on Facebook.  After deleting all photos of you together and eating a pint of ice cream, it’s time to move on. And there’s no better time to do so then Winter Welcome Week. But as every collegiette ™ knows, the art of moving on is a very difficult process; girls must catch the eye of every guy she never bothered talking to while she was with Mr. Last Semester while pretending to notice no one and look fabulous doing so.  For a guy’s perspective on the subject, we turn once again to our campus cutie.

HC:  How long do you wait to hit on a girl who you know just ended things with another guy and why?

It depends on the girl. If I knew it was rough on her, I’d give her some time and room to breathe. If she were over it though, I’d go for it.

HC:  Define a ‘rebound’ and, in your opinion, what are the pros and cons?

Finally you’ve done the impossible: secured a boyfriend in college. Congratulations! This is a feat not many girls accomplish. But be warned, having a boyfriend can be just as difficult as getting one. Especially with finals and winter break approaching, it can be hard to make time for your boy and your girls. To help navigate the boyfriend blizzard we turn once again to our campus cutie.

What’s the hardest part about having a girlfriend?
Maintaining a healthy balance between hanging out with her and the boys, in addition to everything else going on in life.

How do you keep up the excitement in a relationship even once the chase is over?
I think it’s important to keep everything spontaneous. Surprises, even little ones, keep things exciting.

What’s the best part about having a girlfriend?
Always knowing you have someone to do something with no matter what.

How many nights out of the week should you hang out with your girlfriend?
Between 2-4 nights. You need to balance everything else like friends and work but still ensure that you don’t take them for granted.

School’s officially begun and with it we collegiettes ™ have a new swarm of guy friends to help us study, grab a snack with, and teach us the actual rules of football. For decades the friendships between girls and guys have been examined, especially in pop culture. Awhile back there was “When Harry Met Sally,” which posed the question of whether guys and girls could ever really be friends. More recently the ‘friends with benefits’ trend has inspired two almost identical films: “No Strings Attached” and “Friends with Benefits”. Obviously complications are pretty common with friendships between the sexes. This week you’ll learn the guy’s perspective on some of the most common questions relating to guy friends.

Can girls and guys every really just be friends?
It depends on the situation, but guys don’t really worry about it as much as girls. If the girl thinks it’s a friendship relationship, that’s all that matters.

How do you feel about friends with benefits?
I see no problem with it; it’s beneficial for everyone.

What can your friend do to show that she’s interested in you as more than a friend?
I think a girl is interested when she tries to hang out with me more at night rather than grabbing coffee or studying at the library. If a girl texts me late at night, I definitely see that as a major sign.
